Crain is where I always took my critters when I lived in the area. Now that I live 17 hours away, I have been forced to take my Scooby to a vet where I live now. Scooby was diagnosed in TX with congestive heart failure and some other issues, and the monthly prescriptions they prescribed would cost $305 PER MONTH, and that didn’t include his thyroid medication that he has been on for a few years.I recently came back to Missouri because my grandson was born and in the NICU in Columbia. I made an appointment at Crain, which I had to change twice, due to the craziness I had going on, but Dr. Rob worked with me the whole time. I wanted his opinion on Scooby’s diagnosis, test results, and the medications. They totally went above and beyond what I could ever expect to work with my availability and rushing back to Columbia to be with my daughter and grandson. I cannot thank them enough for all they did for us. Scooby’s medications were reevaluated and now cost less than $100 a month for all of his medications. And, they told me when I need refills to call, and they would ship him what he needs. I called today to order refills and Savannah made it all so easy!If you want to take your critters to a place that will genuinely care, Crain is the place. If you want to feel like you’re not being taken advantage of for money because you love your animal, Crain is amazing! I think very highly of their business and just wish I could bring them to TX with me, but since I can’t, I appreciate them making the accommodations I need to care for my dog in his Senior years.

I was needing to get my dog into see a vet quick as I did not know what was wrong with him. My son recommended Crain Veterinary. I am so thankful! From the lady that answered the phone, she was so polite, understanding and helpful, I could feel her compassion over the phone and she got me in the same day. When I arrived they got me right in. The doctors were amazing and worked with me. I can not say enough great things about the entire staff! I live 30 minutes away, I pass many vet clinics to get to them. It is worth the drive for my piece of mind and not only for how my dog is loved and cared for but the way they care for and educate me. If you are looking for a compassionate caring place for you and your animal, I highly recommend Crain Veterinary! Thank You again to you and your staff!

The staff was very helpful and friendly and we are considering changing primary vets for our dog Pablo. Their price for neutering was fair.

Dr. Jerry gave our cat no pain medication after bladder surgery so my cat was sent home in excruciating pain and urinating blood. When we asked dr. Jerry while picking up our cat if he was drowsy from pain medication he said “Nope he’s not on any pain medication so he’s REAL mad!” And shook his cage aggressively. 2 weeks post surgery we called dr. Jerry to ask why our cat still seemed to be in pain while urinating and he screamed at us and said “DO NOT QUESTION ME GOD DAMMIT” and then said “Just euthanize the cat” . We have taken our cat to a new vet sbeing treated so poorly and for the lack of compassion and our cat was treated with antibiotics for the illness he got from the filthy conditions at Crain and medicine to relax his bladder which our new vet said is very commonly prescribed. Dr. Jerry seems to have never heard of it though. If you care about your animals do not bring them here, “dr.” Jerry will kill your pets.

Dog (Max… but I don’t call him that) loves his extended family here…. but he loves everyone… except one old lady driving a corvette… sorry Ruth he’s usually very lovable…. I blame the car!Seriously though Crain has always treated us like family and has always taken great care of Dog…… ok…… Max.

My family & I were going out of town, so we let these "vets" take care of our dog for THREE DAYS. The night before we were coming back, the veterinarian did surgery on him and didn't call us to see if that was okay, they called us the next day after they already did it. In their words, "everyone was helping & if it wasn't for us, your dog would be dead." Which cannot be true, they had at least 20 people. All 20 people were helping? Okay sure. Let me give you the run down. He's a great dane, and their diets are different from other dogs. As a veterinary center, you'd think they would already know this. You need to feed them when they are about to take their naps. Otherwise, they'll get bloaded and if not acted quickly they would die. So, the vet not only didn't listen to any of our feeding directions (which was to feed him 3 times a day, because he's the size of a small horse, with the food WE brought with a cup so they know how much, and to feed him when he's about to nap), they then did surgery on him (which could have been avoided) and didn't call us. They used a "signed agreeing paper" that we had signed for his SPAYING a couple years back, and they wouldn't let us see him unless we paid them for that surgery they caused, without our permission, let alone knowledge of, and they then decided to add another cost for the bath they gave him after the surgery. Which you're NOT supposed to do because it would cause pain and infection. Again, as a veterinary center, they should already know this. We tried to sue, but because there was a paper that said we "agreed", and there's no date on it, didn't specify that it was for spaying, we couldn't really do anything. The main veterinarian & some of the staff were so rude to our family, but the moment my dad came straight from work in his uniform, suddenly this guy was syrupy sweet. After a couple days of fighting with these abusive people, we ended up paying because we wanted our dog back, but we were very upset, disappointed & frustrated. When I tell you this was the sweetest, softest dog I've ever met. He was very sad and in so much pain, you could see his spine and ribs poking out of his body. We got his food bucket back which barely got touched, and the blanket he supposedly got stomach fluid on when he was blaoded, which isn't sanitary at all. My dog LOVES getting pets, cuddles, beaing near everyone, and when we got him home, he didn't want to be touched at all. This boy was so happy to see his family, he didn't like any of the vets, when we could finally see him, he hid behind my mother. As soon as we got home, we made an appointment and visited an animal hospital. They told us that he hadn't been fed correctly and we found out that these "vets" from Crain didn't give our dog ANY PAIN MEDS. When he got home on meds, he was wagging his tail and rubbing up against us, acting like himself again without a care in the world. DO NOT EVER take your pet here, if you love them. And always date your papers if there is none. They don't even deserve one star, they should shut down. That's animal abuse, and it's not okay.

I've gone to Crain for about 30 years. They have a staff of vets that consult with each other instead of compete, and the staff is friendly yet professional. It's always very clean. There are a couple of small dogs with free run of the place that belong to one of the owners. They'll accept pets and treats but won't press for either. I would always recommend them.

My dog was running outside and punctured a hole in his paw. He had to stay a couple nights and they worked with us on staying an extra night until we could get the money together. Our dog loves the staff and they’re always so friendly !

Was recommended to come here. Worst experience ever. I should’ve read the reviews like usual. THE REVIEWS ARE ALL TRUE SO BEWARE. They preyed on me for the love I have for my dog. The way they tried to scare and manipulate me into a surgery. And now that I wanted a second opinion and a more affordable option they are being so unethical. They are still refusing to send over records that I legally own since I paid my bill. And Julie, sweetie, it is very unprofessional and disrespectful to acknowledge a doctor as “sweetie”. I will be reporting you guys. Next time I call up there I expect the DOCTORS SOAP NOTES TO BE SENT OVER AS REQUESTED. I WOULD LIKE A DETAILED EXPLANATION AS TO WHY YOU GAVE MY DOG THE CERTAIN MEDICINE YOU DID. I would like detailed notes as to why you did each test. You want me to trust to leave my dog there but one of the veterinarians is like 70 years old and couldn’t even give me the acronym of the surgery they wanted my dog to have. A nurse or an assistant had to come over and explain it. So excuse me that I did not feel confident in this facility caring for my dog. But I still have legal rights to all of the care she was given and WHY.
