Typically people only leave reviews when negative, check my history please. That being said my partner and I are fair and balanced. When visiting CarMax of Independence we were extremely dissatisfied. We both have the Credit and Buying Power to pick what we would like to own. After telling the Sales Representative what we decided on we were told that we could have an $18,000 Vehicle for 72 Months at 16% for a payment of $479.00. This Establishment uses a singular Financing Company to structure their deals. DO NOT PURCHASE HERE!

This review details Carmax Independence, MO., and my experience with the corporate office.
I was looking for a specific car (make, model, color, and trim level). i found this car at a Carmax in Delaware. Had Carmax ship it (for a fee) to Missouri. Shipping took about 5 days, which is reasonable, and upon arrival in Missouri I was told the title was lost, and would require a minimum of 2 weeks to resolve.
Fast forward a few weeks, I picked the car up, and took it to my mechanic of choice, who found a few minor problems with the car--and one major problem. I felt like the local Carmax sales rep was a little dismissive towards me and my problem with the car, so I called corporate. They were NOT dismissive, and handled me exceptionally well. It helps to have pictures of legitimate problems!
In the end, Carmax agreed to cover the cost of the repairs, and because I live a long way from a Carmax dealer, they agreed to allow me to use the service people of my choice. Would I buy another car from Carmax? It's a cautious yes. They DID stand behind their name and product--and the decision on how to handle things came from corporate quickly.
Overall, not a terrible experience. Lots of room for improvement though.

My initial experience filling out paperwork and picking up my car was straightforward. However, the follow-up process was extremely disappointing. I called to confirm that CarMax had received the additional information needed for my title paperwork and that they submitted the necessary financial documents to my bank. I was assured both had been completed. Unfortunately, they had not sent the financial paperwork as promised, and by the time they did, it was too late.
As a result of this delay, I had to submit a new loan application, which significantly impacted my credit score — an issue I’m now left to resolve. While I understand that mistakes can happen, I’m deeply frustrated by the misleading information I received and the lack of accountability. No effort was made to address the inconvenience I experienced.
Because of this, I would not choose CarMax again or recommend them to others.

Absolutely the biggest crooks in the car business.
Do not buy from here. Do not buy the car care warranty. It's a ripoff. Thieves like this should be in jail.

I did not purchase a car here, but only because the one I requested ended up not working for me. The whole experience was a pleasure. Isaac is a great, no pressure salesman who seemed very chill and I hope when I do decide on a car, I can get it from him. The website isn't that great, but it was pretty simple to find a car and free to have it shipped near me so I could test drive it with no strings attached. I enjoyed testing the car and this was such a simple process. Definitely wanting to find a car here now. Isaac has an enjoyable sense of humor and though I dislike shopping quite a bit, I really enjoyed this visit. I didn't know it could be so simple to look at cars. Other dealerships are doing it wrong. If you hate car salesmen, high pressure sales and/or endless contact from anyone in these two categories than I recommend looking here for your next vehicle.

I bought this car because I knew it was one that would last as I had driven 1 for the past five years. I was lucky and got one that some old person definitely had and their kids probably sold it for money thinking it was trash. I got Maxcare too, but I warn u. Read the fine print. Whatever is bad has to fail before u get service, and it better be specificly what's covered. I've preordered my car from another state. It sat for almost two weeks before I was able to get in it. At that time I was promised to paint job.Because the salesman admitted that it wasn't up carmax standard. It has scratches and chips enough to be kinda noticeable. Not really end of the world but it was promised to me. Well When I finally did get it scheduled it was when they were not open and there was no 1 there to meet me. They refunded the expensive of it being brought here from GA, but the entire process was aweful and I had to get forceful almost to get in the car after it had sat for 2 weeks after delivery that took a month. Luckily as stated I knew what I bought so thankfully I will never ever need to go to carenax again. Ever. I tell everyone too.

If you’re looking to get scammed both in the price of the vehicle and the price of your trade-in, go visit Carmax and independence. They don’t even know the difference between a hole in the bumper and a receiver hitch. The blue book on my mini Cooper is $5500 and they offered me 500. I might as well burn the damn thing in the parking lot and roast some hotdogs and have fun.
Do not do business with Carmax. It’s the only way they’re going to learn.
And the bigger problem is: they simply don’t care

BLUF: this was a huge waste of time.
I had a buddy suggest I go by and see what carmax would give me for my jeep since I wanted to sell it. When I walked in there was no one to greet me or offer any suggestions on who I should talk to. I stood there for about 5 minutes before I asked if a guy walking by worked there. Should have left then.
I have a 2016 jeep Rubicon with 100k miles. Great shape, soft/hard tops, leather, remote start. One on their lot for over $20k. They offered me 10k. Not even remotely close to the KBB value of 21k or even close to what they will list it at around 25k.
I drive the Jeep 90 miles everyday and its garage kept. What a rip off business that’s trying to prey on people that don’t know any better. I bet they would have offered a low interest rate of %25 too. Con artist
I can’t believe I wasted an hour of my day off on them.

This is the first time we have ever tried to do business with CarMax, and I seldom make a Google review. We were very pleased with our sales associate, Austin, so that is why there is a two-star review. He was very polite and professional
and totally understood and supported our frustrations. When we went to see the car we paid to have sent here, (Des Moines, Iowa to Independence, Missouri, nonrefundable), we were not satisfied with the vehicle. We purchased a front wheel drive Highlander in the spring from another dealership and decided to upgrade to an all-wheel drive about a month ago. We thought we had found the vehicle we wanted a 2022, all wheel drive, Toyota Highlander with 35,000 miles from Des Moines, Iowa. We paid the $100 transfer fee and then looked the vehicle over when it arrived. There were multiple scratches, dings, (5 or more) with mismatched touch up paint on the vehicle. The tires were also close to being bare. This company was asking $38,000 for a 2022, 35,000 mile, Toyota Highlander, AWD, XLE, with several nicks and scratches, and offering $33,000 for our 2023 Toyota Highlander with 26,000 miles in excellent condition (I know it was FWD, not AWD)..so please pay $5,000 to us for an SUV with 10,000 more miles, a year older, nicks and scratches with off-color touch-up paint, bench seat in the second row (compared to Captain's chairs), crappy tires, etc. and prices were not negotiable. From what I see, this company is not trying to be fair, they are trying to take advantage of you, and make as much money as they can. My husband and I are big on mutual fairness. We want you to make money, but we also want you to be fair to us. We do not feel like this happened at this business, and we learned a $100 lesson.

Taylor gets 5 stars, but I'm only giving 4 because they've misdiagnosed my car twice, but finally figured out the problem. I’ve been dealing with ongoing issues with my vehicle, and the experience has been both frustrating and inconvenient. However, Taylor, the service manager, has truly made a difference throughout this process.
Taylor has been exceptional...gracious, professional, and an excellent communicator. She consistently provided clear and timely updates, ensuring I always knew the status of my vehicle. Her level of customer service has been outstanding, and it has helped turn a challenging situation into a more manageable one.
Thank you, Taylor!

The sales staff didn't seem very interested in selling vehicles. Then when I decided on the vehicle to purchase, I asked if the car would be detailed prior to delivery. The car was dirty and there was even a cooler in the trunk.

I have bought from CarMax before and would of given this a 5 star review except this time I am currently having trouble resolving an issue with them over what was advertised about the car on their website. I showed having 2 key Fobs and I was given only 1. I was told to call service and they would get me another one but I have to come in on a Thursday morning because that is the only time the key Fob person was there. Hard to do when I work. Also had a steering wheel heater listed and when I discovered there wasn't one they looked into it and said the would refund $400 but I have yet to hear from them about this subject. Usually they are hassle free and very cooperative but since this is ongoing at the moment, it feels like a hassle and unnecessary stress. If they resolve this soon, I would be more than happy to up the rating. (This issue was finally resolved but it took 2 months.)

Drive 1 hr 15 minutes to go here and had an appointment for 7:30 checked in and waited forever and no one helped us. As we are leaving a sales men asked if we were ever helped and I said no he said sorry about that! We had the vehicle already picked out and was going to purchase. But first impressions mean a lot to me! So sorry about that you’re loss!!!

Fast and easy. I like that you can do everything online before you get there so it’s quick and you know you have what you need to get it done.

Wish I could give this place ZERO stars!!!!
Update: Still, no one has contacted me personally to resolve my issue. All I got was robo generated response to my review asking me to call an 800 number (which was NO HELP AT ALL)... totally disappointing.
Carmax independence Missouri is a horrible place to do business with when it comes to their service department. Our car broke down during a road trip, forcing me to trust them with my car. HUGE MISTAKE. My car was dropped off in the beginning of February and we went MONTHS without communication or updates on the repairs. After thousands of unreturned calls I had to file a police report for my car being stolen, since there was no communication on where my car was or when I would get it back. It was not until I got the police involved that someone (ADarius- Service Manager) contacted me and provided me with a vague update and unfilled promises that my car would be returned to me in a week. Again I went months without my car and no communication on where it was. I think had to file another police report in my home state for a stolen car. Again once law enforcement was involved ADarius called and said my car was ready for pick up. Approximately 5 months later I finally get my car back only for it to break down with the same problems less than 24 hrs after picking it up. Back to the shop we go! After getting my car back, without having it for half a year, there was EXTENSIVE damage to the paint job of my car. I reach out to Carmax independence MO they instructed me to take to a local body shops to get all repairs done and they would pay for everything. That was over one month ago and again I have been ghosted by ADarius and Taylor (service employee).Hundreds of calls unanswered, no payment made for the repairs of the damages that they have caused and no car in return due to them ignoring my phones and messages. NEVER take your car to this location or believe anything that the employees and service manager say to you.
