We have been taking our 2 dogs and 2 cats there for years and Carter Pet Hospital does an acceptable job for annual checkups. However, when we recently took our dog there for neck/back related issues, they were not able to properly diagnose/treat him. In first visit, they gave him a shot and prescribed medication, which did not resolve the issue. A week later, during the second visit, they gave him another shot and prescribed steroids and muscle relaxers that did a better job in masking the symptoms, but the problem was again not resolved. When we contacted them the third time, three weeks after his problem began, they said there is nothing else they can do for us and asked us to seek care elsewhere. This is quite disappointing as we feel like we wasted our time, energy, and money for no reason. We will look for another provider that is capable of properly diagnosing/treating any issues that our pets might have in the future. I agree with the negative reviews posted here.

We’ve taken our past cats to Carter’s for their whole life, until now. Back in 2022 we noticed reoccurring symptoms of a uti in our cat. We took her in for an appointment and they diagnosed her with diabetes out of the blue. From there we started her on insulin. Not even a week later, we had to put her down. She had lost significant weight and was very lethargic. The cause of her death… to high of a prescription of insulin. Not only did the doctor have NO bedside manners and was very ignorant, he overdosed our cat on insulin and ultimately ended her life. I, in no way, recommend Carter Pet Hospital. The fact that they prescribed too much medication shows their lack of medical knowledge. Even I know that insulin is a medicine you work to find the right amount, not just shoot at a high level and go with it. The first picture was a few months before her death, the second picture was the day we had to put her down. I think those say a thousand words in and of themselves. She was only 10 years old.

Excellent service. They are so thoughtful and caring when we had to put Possum down due to cancer. The card signed by everyone and paw print we got really shows how much they care. Our puppy Zeke loves going inside and you can tell he's not afraid which is exactly what we want in a vet office.

Amazing group of people. Always been available on short notice, and did an amazing job making us feel cared about, even during the end of our dogs life

Carter has done an amazing job caring for my three dogs for the last 8 years! We particularly love Dr. Arbesman. She is so patient and down to earth. She was even able to bond with and calm our extra nervous dog, who usually goes crazy.

I have been taking my dogs to Carter Pet Hospital for roughly 20 years now. They have been there for the lives, illnesses and surgeries of 6 of our furry family members and supported us through the final days of 4. I can’t say enough about the friendliness, patience and compassion of their staff. They have treated both us and our fur babies with empathy and respect. The veterinarians are very good about explaining things and answering all of our questions. Although you can request to see a specific vet each time (which we did for the first few years), you can usually get a quicker appointment if you are ok to see any of them.I do have to give a special thanks to Dr Rice, though. He sat on the floor with me and our golden retriever, AJ, as we discussed comfort measures for AJ’s final days with cancer. Dr Rice answered all of my questions and never appeared to be rushed to get to his next appointment. I was allowed time to call my family and discuss our options, without once feeling rushed so that they could have the room for someone else. I especially appreciated Dr Rice getting on our level (More specifically , AJ’s level on the floor) for the discussion and for the compassion and patience shown to us that day by all of the staff. That meant everything to me then and still does.I would highly recommend Carter Pet Hospital to anyone who wants their pet to be treated like one of the family.

Don't let the pictures fool you. They only care about the money. They don't care about the pets or the medications for the pets. THEY ONLY WANT THE MONEY. PERIOD

Yesterday we knew it was time to put our dog Spot down. It wasn’t an easy decision, but she was ready. Everyone at Carter Pet Hospital was kind, gentle, and thoughtful. In a room dedicated to our last time together, she was given a tray of treats not ordinarily given to a dog: chocolate amongst them. She was gently administered an injection for relaxing, and we hugged and petted her as the medicine began taking effect. After she was very sleepy, the veterinarian gently injected her with her final shot, and she drifted away to her final sleep. The process of losing a pet is never easy; the staff at Carter made it bearable. Thank you.

I literally brought my cat to Carters to get neutered this morning and was told there would be an $185 fee. About an hour later, I was called to say additional testing would need to be performed and the cost would be additional $500!!!! I declined the testing and surgery and was told I would still have to pay $85 for an X-ray!!! These people are scammers!!! Stay clear away. Also check out ALL of the other negative reviews…wish I had researched them more before making an appointment.

I was recommended this vet by a friend. One of the best vets I've been to! Personal service, you can tell everyone who works there is there because animals are there because animals are their passion. I am already recommending them to friends with pets.

Carter has killed 2 of our pets with no accountability whatsoever. They over dose on anesthesia. And I've picked up one of my cats there who had a big gash on his nose that wasn't there when I dropped him off.

We've been going to Carter's for a couple of years without any issues or complaints until recently. Our elderly dog started having UTI's and when I took her for an appointment for a suspected UTI recently they told me 1. She did not have an infection and 2. I needed to consider her quality of life. So I decided to get a second opinion at our old vet location where they determined she had a UTI. Good thing I didn't listen to Carter's! I would have put my dog down for a very treatable condition. I'm beyond frustrated with this office and the 'care' they provide.I realize there are a ton of great reviews but when it actually counts to get your pet seen and cared for, they charge more for an 'urgent care' visit or send you elsewhere. If you care at all for your furbabies, stay far far away from this place!Editing to add that the conversation about quality of life was hard but realizing if I had taken their advice I would have put my dog down for a very treatable condition.

It’s a long drive for us but completely worth it! The staff is always very friendly and clearly work well together. Dr Rice is especially great with Buddy and helpful with suggestions on how to keep him healthy. We appreciate the compassionate care! As you can see, my boy is also happy with his experience.
