April 2019 by John D.
BEWARE OF SERVICE DEPARTMENT! I received a notice for a safety recall (18S32) for my 2014 Ford Focus. I spoke to Lonnie Stueve to schedule my service, informing him that I was having issues with my gas tank filling. Prior to scheduling service at the Nevada Auto Mall, I was discouraged from servicing my vehicle there by a co-worker who cited their previous unpleasant service experiences. I ultimately decided to schedule service anyway. On April 12, 2019, I dropped my car off and it was reportedly serviced for the recall. I received no paperwork summarizing the work that had been done to my vehicle. I asked what was done and was given a vague answer by Lonnie. I asked if the gas tank fill issue was corrected and did not receive a clear response. I then inquired about whether I could contact him if it was not corrected and again was not given a clear response. On April 18, 2019 my check engine light came on with the code P1450, "Inability Of Evaporative Emission Control System To Bleed Fuel Tank." I understand that this is a defect associated with the recall. I called the Nevada Auto Mall service department on April 18, 2019 and again spoke to Lonnie, requesting that my vehicle be reexamined since this issue emerged after servicing and was related to the initial recall. He declined and stated that the recall service had been completed. He did not collect other details related to the check engine light to investigate further. After speaking with Lonnie, I called the service department at Max Motors in Butler. The mechanic in the service department looked up my vehicle via VIN number. He confirmed that service code P1450 is in fact associated with the recall notice and repairs should be covered. He planned to put in a ticket with Ford regarding this issue as the recall service had been closed in the computer system. Notably, my vehicle's mileage was listed as 29,000 miles in this mechanic's computer system. The actual mileage of the vehicle is 108,000 miles. This casts significant doubt as to whether the recall was performed on my vehicle or completed correctly by the Nevada Auto Mall service department. On the initial phone call, visit for servicing, and subsequent phone call I found Lonnie's demeanor to be unfriendly and generally unprofessional. Based on these encounters, I would not purchase or advise any friend or family member to purchase from Nevada Auto Mall.
