The service was great and the car looks like new. The repair took longer than we hoped for but those things are expected with the amount of repair that was necessary. The inside was cleaned very well which we didn’t expect so that was nice surprise. Overall they did a wonderful job!

I had my vehicle towed to Schaefer Autobody Centers after hitting a large deer at highway speed. The tow truck driver and rental car staff both suspected my car would be a total loss. However, Schaefer assured me they could repair it, even though the damage was extensive. They told me it would be a long, difficult job but that they would get my car back up and running.
After about a month, they contacted me saying the car was “good as new” and only waiting on a Kia decal. On 11/19/25, I picked up the vehicle and paid my $1,000 deductible. Unfortunately, the car was nowhere near “good as new.” It had multiple issues: plastic hanging from the rearview mirror, grinding noises from the engine, friction while driving, burning fluid smells, the AWD service light on, and the engine felt like it was jumping out of the car. I immediately returned it, explaining that the car had been running fine before the accident and I could not accept it in this condition.
Schaefer then determined the car was in fact totaled, and insurance agreed, declaring it a total loss on 11/26. The manager told me she attempted to refund my deductible but her computer froze, and I would need to come back when I cleaned out the car. What followed was a frustrating series of attempts:
11/28 (Black Friday): shop closed, despite not being a federal holiday.
12/1: shop closed again, this time due to snow.
12/2: I finally made it in, but after waiting half an hour, they only managed to refund $500, promising the rest later.
12/3: after I had to call them myself, the manager finally processed the remaining $500.
This entire ordeal was an atrocity. From misrepresenting the condition of my vehicle, to declaring it repairable when it was clearly a total loss, to making me chase down my own refund in piecemeal fashion—it was unprofessional, stressful, and unacceptable. I would strongly caution anyone considering Schaefer Autobody Centers to think twice before trusting them with your vehicle.

Schaefer O’Fallon was amazing to work with. My husband was rear-ended, and the other insurance company was difficult to work with. Mike J really fought for us, and he also made sure that the replacement parts were in excellent condition (they had to send a part back twice). We are very pleased with the work and the service!
