Called for help an they said to send an email an they would get back to me. Waited a week didn't hear anything so I called back an once again I got the run around an they said once the director came back they would call me but here I am almost 3 weeks later an no word! The people I did talk to were rude as ever an offered no help at all! Worse place ever. If I could leave a negative review I would but can't

The staff is kind, respectful and friendly. The lobby is obviously cleaned regularly. This is a wonderful place to adopt from and I'm pawsitive your surrender will be cared for like family as well. I'd rather give 10 stars than 5.

We lost our dog of 7 years to a rare genetic disorder. Went to Dogwood Animal Shelter in May and found border collie/lab mix 5 month old Kerry (now Kerra). She is a joy. No behavior issues, was quick to house train, loves and plays well with our older border collie mix. She is happy, playful, and loves her long walks by our near by lake. Can’t imagine life without her now. Our grandsons adore her and she is so gentle with them.

Great place! Staff is very kind and helpful. The animals seem very well taken care of and they do a great job vetting potential adopters. They also do a great job informing you on all the animals and have a great process letting you meet/play with any dogs you’re interested in meeting. Can’t stress enough it’s a no kill shelter that’s caring for tons of dogs and looking for great homes. Highly recommend.

Good place to go when you need help with cat food once a month. Plus you can walk around and see and pet the dogs and cats at the shelter.

Just adopted Lucy, such a sweet, smart Doberman Shepherd! She's already happy and playing with her Boxer brother, loves to fetch the ball, curious about everything! Thanks to you Cathy and the rest of the staff, and the inmate who gave her such great care at Pets For Prisoners program. She's already family!

My wife and i went here to adopt a dog. Our dog had to be put down a week ago due to cancer. We found a dog we really liked and filled out the application. Staff was not very friendly or responsive to our questions. They said it would be 24 to 48 hours for a response…this was on a Saturday. They called my wife on Monday and wanted all of our medical records on our current animals and said we have to get all our animals fixed. We have one dog who is already fixed and 3 cats who are not. Why would our cats need to be fixed to bring in a dog?None of this information was told to us nor was it on the application. Needless to say we werent able to provide a new home for Tango. I will never go here again. I always get shelter dogs and they have all had the very best. Ive never had such a bad experience and issues trying to adopt a pet.

This is a no kill shelter. They are compassionate caretakers of dogs and cats. They have a thrift shop to help support the animals. What a worthwhile charity!

If your pet ever changed vets, you probably will not be approved. My Boy was 13 when he passed. We moved when he was about 8 and started with a new vet. In Missouri vets are only required to keep records for 5 years after the last visit so of course his early vaccinations and neuter information was not kept, nor passed along to the new vet since they did not request or require it. This can be a pain but to the self-righteous jury that is Dogwood Animal Shelter you are seen as a monster that didn’t properly care for your previous pet and may not be worthy of adopting an animal in need. This criticism of course will not apply if you think about taking an older animal that could be broken or potentially a danger, just only brought to the surface if you want to adopt a younger animal. So apparently you do not need to be a good owner to take an older pet, just a younger one. This is a double-standard in my opinion, and it is almost as if they do not treat all animal lives equally, which is no way to run a shelter. Animals in need should be able to be matched with a loving owner who wants them, which usually solves the problem of why that animal was there in the first place.

This place is a joke when it comes to adoptions. You have animals that need homes and loving people who are wanting and willing to adopt but can't get through a screening process because they weren't the State documented most perfect pet owner in the past. This is why puppy mills exist, because shelters no longer match animals to good people, but rather hold judge and jury over people because of their own prejudices. This forces good people to find other breeders or mills with easier screenings, and the rest of those litters will end up in the same shelters who don't release the ones they have. This is not how animal rescue was intended.

I filled out the application automatically that they told me this is the dog they wanted me to take the other dogs they said you not be good with my dog , I paid $150 for a dog and returned it 3 days later because it bit me twice and bit my other dog three times their policy says you can return a pet within 7 days and get a full refund . It has been 3 weeks and I still have not received my refund when I call about my refund their accountant is always out never there to be found and they said they'll call you back they never call you back so I am out of a dog and out $150 I did turn them into the better Business Bureau , and my bank told me to contact the sheriff's department and report it as a theft that the bank says it's $150 and I do not have the pet that

What a wonderful place!! I had a cat hanging around for months and they agreed to take her(I'm highly allergic or I would have kept her). I can't say enough about the awesome people who work there and their love for animals.

Put in a application for a pet, which we have adopted 2 other pets in past from there and was told that I would know within 24 to 48 hours, never heard anything back from them. I called a week later and was told... oh it was adopted already. Very rude lady that answered the phone and very rude with her response. I will never recommend this place to anyone. Poor customer service. I feel sorry for the animals if they treat them like the do customers.
