I do belive the dogs were very well taken care of , but volunteering was a horrible experience, I was so surprised, now not everyone, but a good number of people in charge trated you like u were stupid, I was shocked, I felt so good about donating time, I was caught of guard, the few good people, tried to make up for the rudeness, I have for the last year, 2 days a week donate time at another no kill, everyone is there to help you and we all work together, it is extremely gratifying

Our family had a terrible experience with this shelter. We intended to bring the dog home with us the day we scheduled an appointment to meet him, but we’re told to wait 2 weeks due to his upper respiratory infection. We filled out the paperwork and paid the $150 fee. The only time window we were offered to pick him up after several unanswered emails was between 5-7am. They canceled the adoption at the 2-week mark and promised to refund our money, which we have not received after several days. Spare yourself and adopt elsewhere.

Had a stray cat with newborn kittens living under my porch stairs. Contacted FOPAS and they came and took them all. I get updates on how they are doing. The staff are so caring and I know they are in good hands.

Do not volunteer at this place, there are some very rude people here and no one to talk to about it, the little man with the hitler mustache and the blond lady are beyond rude, you think you are doing something good and you are treated terribly

My experience with this shelter was very disheartening, and extremely similar to another review by K A. In summary, I was approved for a kitten, told that she was mine, and then a week later was told she was going to somebody else. Here's the long story: I had heard about some foster kittens from a friend and reached out to meet them. I immediately fell in love with one and submitted pre adoption paperwork. The paperwork was approved within a few hours, and I had been explicitly told "she's your kitty." I had to wait a few weeks for her to be spayed, but then she could come home with me. I went ahead and told my friends and family about her, bought supplies specifically for kittens, and posted about her on social media. I visited her again with my family to bond and get to know her a bit better. A week later I receive an email that the shelter had forgotten about another preadopt form that was already approved, and that this cat wasn't my kitty anymore. The responses I got from the staff were very short and expressed little to no remorse or sympathy for the situation. I was told that they were "sorry I was upset" and that "they work to provide a wonderful experience." The apologies felt very insincere (the first email was only 2 sentences) and this experience clearly wasn't wonderful- I have no doubt that the volunteers have kind hearts considering how much work and compassion it takes to help animals in the ways they do. HOWEVER, this situation was extremely *not okay* and based on the other review, this is *not an isolated incident* (despite myself being told this is the first time this has ever happened). I'll update this review if anything changes, but I've been told it's unlikely anything will. Overall, I would recommend checking out another shelter before getting attached to any pets here.

FOPAS is an amazing shelter. The volunteers are focused on the very best outcomes for the pets in their care. We have adopted two cats and are long term foster for another. They take such good care of the animals and are dedicated to but only placement, but a good match for everyone.

The FOPAS shelter is one of the kindest and most caring animal shelters out there. They take the time and care of their animals in order to ensure a fantastic transition to home. They also have a lot of information about the animals and want to make sure that the adoption is great for all parties involved. Highly recommend!
