On balance, our stay was disappointing. Adding to this was the fact that one of this hotel’s many general managers contacted me after our stay to berate me for the negative feedback left on the hotel’s customer survey.1. Arrived mid afternoon with reservations for two rooms (double beds and single bed rooms). Front desk person was young, very friendly, but couldn’t find one of our reservations until he spent some time poking around on the computer. No big deal, but worth mentioning because apparently reservations aren’t grouped by name…and you may experience the same issue when you check in.2. FYI – their “full service” bar and grill isn’t open on Sundays or Mondays. And it’s only open for a grand total of 20 hours/week the other five days. You’ll see these hours if you scroll all the way to the bottom of their website home page, but not before you read about “how wonderful” their restaurant and bar is…may be true, when it’s open.3. There is only ONE food option in town on Sundays. It’s a bar about a block away.4. They advertise “secure bike storage” and a “courtesy” of bringing your bike to the lobby each day, when in reality the bike storage IS the lobby. We were also riding the Katy Trail, and when we arrived at around 4pm there were approximately 20 bikes in the lobby. The front door is locked at night, reportedly, but anyone can walk in off the street and ride away with a bike of their choosing, made easier by a staff member who is busy searching for a reservation they cannot find…5. Double beds room was reportedly very nice, and was appointed with two bathrooms. I stayed in single bed room and it was very small (not a big deal), bed was so soft it was hard to get out of. There’s NO way to turn off room HVAC unit so you’ll have to get used to the noise – and in my case it was right next to the bed so I tried to stack several pillows over the vents. No luck.6. Room door was difficult to open/close due to ill-fitting door frame. That’s expected of an old building but it’s also easily corrected. That is, if someone wants to.7. Checking out the next day was straightforward, although front desk person barely said one word to us and while that’s okay it was a stark departure to the sunny disposition we encountered at check-in.8. Breakfast is available. Nothing special, really. The person working the breakfast area was very nice, friendly. Unfortunately, they ran out of eggs before we arrived.9. After the stay I received several emails from the hotel, asking me to complete a survey. So, I obliged them, and sent feedback exactly as seen above. Many days later I received TWO emails to my personal email address from Bobbi Luebbert, who identified herself as a general manager with this hotel (turns out they have several GMs, why that’s the case is beyond me). Ms. Luebbert “apologized” on behalf of her team for failing to exceed my expectations, then proceeded into a paragraph-long rant about how my comments weren’t realistic or truthful. She also felt the need to brag about the COMPLIMENTARY (her caps, not mine) breakfast and that the hotel isn’t required to offer this feature but they are proud to be able to do so (remember, they ran out of eggs and I mentioned this in my feedback). She concluded her comments with this bit of advice: “There are several other properties in town that I am sure you would be much happier in.”Clearly this is a “manager” that doesn’t value guest opinions if they don’t align with her own, and further she doesn’t recognize the value of customer feedback. She’s been with the hotel less than one year, and perhaps ownership will recognize the need for change sooner rather than later. My advice: Stay here if you’d like, but please be aware that management does not value your opinions. Look at other less-than-stellar feedback on this hotel and you will see similar comments.

We were given the suite without asking so that was cool! I am used to staying at semi expensive resorts and hotels, so this was a change of pace. It's definitely not an upscale place in that sense BUT it has a lot of charm and history. I think more care could have been taken in the room cleaning before we arrived. The room itself looked as though they took a lot of pride in renovating. The heater and ac worked fast! Bed was comfy. It was a short walk to nearby pubs and coffee places. It also felt very safe being across from police station. If you dig these kind of historic places and being right in the middle of downtown, it's definitely for you.

We were biking the nearby Katy Trail and found your grand old hotel very accommodating. They allowed is to take our bikes up to our room and were so helpful. The restaurant was delicious, the chef came out to ask if everything was satisfactory. The steaks were 5 star fantastic.

This is a lovely hotel and we really liked the location. The rooms are well decorated and the walk-in shower was very nice. Two drawbacks 1. the sewer smell in our room and throughout the building, they said it was due to being warm out, but it was a beautiful 66*, so I don’t think that was it!! We bought a glad plug in and that made it bearable. 2 the first room we had there was no view, just a nice view of the air conditioning unit. No other rooms available but the corner suit, which I wasn’t even offered a discount. The room was beautiful but again the smell!!!!! Wish they would have offered a discount. I will not recommend or be staying here again, which makes me sad, because other reviews were so nice. PS the staff was friendly.

Everything a 5 Star hotel would have plus an awesome history going back to 1927. President Truman has visited here several times including his decision to run for the U.S. Senate while at the Bothwell. Wonderful art deco decor with room for conventions, weddings, reunions etc....

Very cool and slightly funky old hotel. The room layout is a little odd until you realize the current rooms are the result of removing a wall between two of the original as built hotel rooms. Would defiantly stay again.

One of, maybe the best hotels I've ever stayed. Room was great, beautiful bathroom tile floors, comfy, love the wooden bar, and music room in lobby. Received a nice student discount, and, LOVED the Scott Joplin history there.. yes, I play❤️ Overall, well worth the 20 mile trip off of 70! CHEERS!

My husband and I stayed here for a wedding over the weekend. When we booked per the request of the bride and groom, they had requested that the wedding party be on the same floor. The hotel said that they would be able to accommodate the wedding party, but at check in the wedding party was staggered on all different floors of the hotel. The room itself was nice and the price was not bad! I stayed on the third floor, but members of the wedding party that stayed on higher floors were met with bed bugs. I understand that this happens when there are many people coming and going, but for such a nice hotel, I really wished that wouldn't have been the case. We didn't try the restaurant, but enjoyed the overall antique feel.

I cannot even tell you how much I loved this hotel. I was in town for my niece's wedding and stayed at this hotel. It is so close to everything you want to be close to. It is walking distance from restaurants and bars, but you don't have the noise you usually get from that type of location. The room was comfortable, the bed was cozy, there was free wifi, and the staff was super friendly. It is an historic building, so keep that in mind when staying here. You do trade a bit of comfort for the charm and the history but it is so worth it. This place is fantastic.

Stopped in while on the Katy Trail. They let us keep our bikes in the lobby or in the room. They also have a handy bike wash out back. Both people at the front desk were super helpful. View of the courthouse and town square from our room. Lobby is a good place to hang. Downstairs breakfast buffet hits the spot.

While in town for a funeral, I had the pleasure of staying at Bothwell Hotel. It is a charming old building, with 7 floors, while the outside is well worn, I believe it adds to the experience. It feels like stepping back in time. They have a top-notch restaurant on premises. As well as a cozy lounge. The room I stayed in was an original room from 1927, kept unmodified (except the furnishings), and it was very small and had many quirks, and the bathroom was very small, however as l was alone I found it perfect. The location is downtown, and while the old town has seen better days, the streets seemed safe and well cleaned. The county courthouse is right next door. With a lawn where people still enjoy gathering.Noteworthy details: The bed was very comfortable, and the service was terrific.

We were in Sedalia for a family reunion. The hotel was amazing. The staff were friendly. We really loved Pam who cooked and served breakfast. She was so attentive and the food was delicious. The only complaint I have is even though our rooms were cleaned/beds made and new towels we did not receive any new cups for coffee or water.Rooms: Rooms are lovely. We had a 2 room suite and although the bathroom was very small the room was nice.Safety: Seems like a very safe area.Walkability: Walking through the town is very easy. You can walk to the coffee shop and several eateries very easily.Food & drinks: Breakfast was delicious. Cooked and served by the sweetest lady Pam.

I love historic hotels.... this one was a treat! Great food and Savanah was a wonderful, friendly server. Enjoyed Betty Davis' cocktail in the bar.... yum! Staff attentive and friendly, she even treated us to a ride in the antique lift. Highly recommend this jewel and Sedalia, great town!

Old timey elegance! What a treat to stay here with our family. First off, the beauty of this well kept historic hotel was amazing and it was "done up" for the holidays for sure! The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating and gave us suggestions for places to shop and check out while we were in downtown Sedalia. Walking distance from the Amtrak station, we rode the train into town. Continental breakfast included in your stay, not out of this world, but good with several options. The room was very nice, a bit small but with up to date amenities. The price seemed very reasonable to us. We will definitely be back. We were there with our 2 boys and they enjoyed it, but this would definitely be a great place for a romantic getaway...Walkability: Walking distance to downtown Sedalia stores, restaurants, and historic sites.Food & drinks: Bar and restaurant as well an area to buy drinks and snacks.
