March 2025 by Marissa Eid (Misa)
Through December and January of 2024-2025, I had a serious engine issue that needed immediate attention and I took my car to the Meineke on West Clay St. Between the repairs and new tires, I spent nearly $1,000 over Christmas.
Not even two months later, the same lights kicked on again. I stopped by AutoZone to have my engine light checked for free and was advised that one of the cylinders was misfiring. Due to the history of the repairs, AutoZone stated that this should have been caught by Meineke.
I called Meineke to see what could be done and spoke with Jim who was unnecessarily rude and downright condescending. He wasted no time to talk down to me as if I were a child, making me feel stupid and embarrassed for not already knowing that "coils are like lightbulbs that can go out for no reason." I explained what AutoZone advised me of which he took very offensively. "Because AutoZone is the best right?" It was clear that he was agitated with me, and continued to say things like "Why would I tell you to fix a lightbulb that isn't broken? Does that make sense to you?"
The next morning, March 14, 2025, I arrived early to the shop and waited for them to open. I took the AutoZone paperwork with me to show Jim, but when I explained the issue again, his tone and demeanor completely changed as he made a snide comments like "Oh, so you are the coil lady. You know, the one I should have replaced months ago. Is that the conversation we had?" He was very harsh and if looks could kill, I'd be rotting in the ground.
After 7 hours, I was charged just under $500 to replace one $80 ignition coil. To be frank, this experience was not worth the rate of $150/hr.

I had a horrible experience here. I was told my inspection was going to take about an hour, and I received a text message saying I would be updated about my service. I waited to get an update on my car for 2 hours, and when I didn’t hear anything, I called the shop directly. The technician who answered the phone was incredibly rude and seemed annoyed that I hadn’t picked up my car yet. 0/10, would not recommend this place to anyone

I went in and talked with jim about my car needing safety and apparently emissions because it’s a 2012. I said sure and one other issue is that it’s blowing cold air and only defroster worked. He said ok we’ll take a look at it.
They did fix the AC and it needed a blower motor which cost $50 brand new. The job took maybe one hour from start to finish as I waited in the lobby. Everything’s fine except one problem you still get cold air to the driver side and hot air to the passenger side which doesn’t help me and actually makes it worse.
I didn’t protest at the time because I thought eh whatever $50 part an hour of labor and then the safety and emissions was done. The total was $600 for a $50 part installing with safety and emissions. I decided to keep driving it and the problem still persists. I used to come here for all my car needs but I think I’ll stay away from meineke or at least the one in Saint Charles. There was no hey well we can keep it overnight and get it fixed. I give two stars because it’s partly my fault for not escalating the situation and get it properly fixed. I plan on selling this vehicle soon and the ac issue is going to be a huge turn off from potential buyers. I’d steer clear and start going to large chain auto repair businesses and definitely Saint Charles meineke.

My experience was great! They got my emissions test completed in good time. Friendly people.

I had a pretty bad experience at the St Charles location. I was having an interlock ignition device installed which should take 3 hours…tops. It took almost 9. And I didn’t have a ride so I sat there all day with them giving me every excuse as to why they are taking so long

***Avoid this place. They do not value you as a customer nor do they respect you.****
I scheduled an alignment appointment online, got a confirmation email, and headed to the shop—only to be met with nothing but disrespect and a shocking lack of professionalism. The place was filthy, the man at the counter looked just as unkempt, and I saw a ‘technician’ smoking under the hood of a car. The shop was empty except for that one car, which should’ve been my cue to leave.
When I approached the counter, I was greeted with a cold, dismissive attitude. I gave him my appointment info and explained my car’s issues, mentioning that I’d installed some adjustable parts, like eccentric bolts, which are not only common but even recommended by alignment software. I also requested that they torque the bolts to spec instead of using an impact wrench. That’s when he outright dismissed me, saying he didn’t want to work on my car and didn’t want to ‘get married to the crap’ I had installed.
The disrespect, lack of basic repair knowledge, and utter disregard for customer service were unbelievable.
If you want to be treated with respect and competence, steer clear of this place.
I ended up going two blocks up the street to a different shop, and they had me on and out in a half an hour, alignment set and even thanked me for making it easier to align by having the proper adjustable parts installed.

Service was okay. They inspected my exhaust and found my catalytic converter was broken and I needed bearings on my front wheel. They charged me $1080 for the converter and $560 for the front end work.
They called me and told me I needed to pay another $80 to complete the front end work because there was an issue with the other wheel that they didn't see. I paid $1700 for the entire job but now I have a check engine light and 2 error codes.

Switch and baiting. Customer service is disgusting. Stop sending me requests to review you, my experience was horrible.

Very happy with automotive repairs. I did not like that they charge an additional 3% to use a credit card. They will not take personal checks. You can only use a debit card to pay there.
VERY INCONVENIENT.

I had the same experience many others did. I made an appointment for safety and emissions inspection 3 weeks in advance, and there was no record of it when I arrived.

Location required a two week appointment and then cancelled me at the door, no notice.

Quick and very hospitable service. Got us in very quickly when other facilities put us on a unstable waiting list or just drop off and we will call. Very knowledgeable mechanics.

Scheduled an appointment with them twice. The first day the guy at the desk was polite and advised they wouldn't be able to service me at the time and that he is placing it in the system for the following Friday at noon. I went in today and was not greeted well. The person at the desk was rude and when I advised of the appointment he didn't even bother checking the schedule. I then tried to explain very calmly what happened the previous visit and he said, "you can debate me all you want but I'ma tell you right now I wouldn't have put you in for noon." I then tried to advise if the person we spoke with and he interrupted me and proceeded to say. "Again we debate this but I didn't schedule you." We then asked are you refusing to service us and his response was yes.
I was very offended and called corporate. I can't believe it's 2024 and they are still refusing service because of my race.
