It is just a horrible store, completely deserves to shut down.

I have had COUNTLESS good interactions with staff and fellow shoppers at this location. I don't spend my money at Hobby Lobby for ethical reasons, and Joann is right around the corner from my house. The closing of this store will leave a huge hole in the market for garment makers. While I usually try to buy local, nothing beats being able to run to Joann to get a few notions that I run out of mid-project. If you're reading this and worked there in the last year, please know how much your job was valued. I loved being asked about my project, hearing others talk about theirs and the overall helpfulness of employees who truly love fabric. I will miss this place dearly.

Try a New Hobby (but not at JoAnn)
At JoAnns, my hubs asked the clerk for help finding “beginner crochet yarn with cotton.” The clerk eventually wandered over (store nearly empty due to bad weather.) She led with, "First of all, there's no such thing as 'beginner yarn.' The yarn starts here. These little ones have some cotton in them."
She had no interest in matching a customer to their needs. She didn’t care what features my “beginner yarn” might have, offer any suggestions, or offer to ask a more yarn-savvy associate
.
SPENT AT JoAnn's: $0.
Same search at Michael's yielded some small skeins of cotton blend "project tube." It's a single-strand that can't fray or unravel. It's easy to see and manipulate each Vee, stitch or whatever. Nomenclature aside, it's beginner yarn with cotton.
I was irresistibly drawn to some synthetic but single-stranded practice yarn.
They had ONE perfectly pointy hook in the right size for that yarn, and with an ergo handle for arthritic hands. Overpriced? Sure. But exactly what I needed to get started on my beginner project.
Michael's usually has what's needed to get your project started. They charge u extra for getting it NOW. That's their niche. Immediate gratification for beginners and pros. See pretty stuff, buy it NOW, make pretty things.
SPENT AT MICHAEL'S:
Crochet yarn & tools: $47
Impulse buy: $14
Michael’s website: Ongoing purchases of the “blanket” yarn that is easy for crochet beginners to see and manipulate.
I asked Amazon for "crochet yarn beginner cotton."
I got to choose from hundreds of beautiful options for home delivery, at great prices.
SPENT ON AMAZON:
Beginner Yarn: $39 & ongoing
Other yarns: $19 & ongoing
Impulse buys: ongoing
We had gone to our neighborhood JoAnn first. I wanted it to be the place where I could shop locally, hands-on, and get everything for my new hobby.
JoAnn didn’t want that role.
Michael’s did. Amazon does.
My friends say yarncomstl at
12772 Olive Blvd, Creve Coeur, MO, 63141 is a good community partner who also wants to be that local source. I will try it and post a review.

I know it's a fabric store, but man do they have a lot of fabric! They also have a bunch of the same stuff as a hobby lobby or Michael's.

I had a bad experience at Joanne fabrics 6910 Lindbergh Blvd st Louis , South County. On 10.21 2024 I was shopping in store at Joanne’s , I had items in my shopping cart ; I left the cart aside to go to the restroom. Unfortunately to return to find all my items had been moved and had to go back through the store to replace everything. To make matters worse I wanted to purchase 18 yards of fabric, It turns out that it measured to the end of the bolt with three inches left, I was told I had to purchase the last three inches or it would be cut off. So I did not purchase any of it. The fabric I decided to purchase I ask to have cut. I offered to cut it for the employee because she was older and not steady , her manager said she couldn’t let me cut it , so I asked the manager to cut it for me, and she said, ”No, she’s good “ but yet my fabric still had jagged edges and was lopsided. I am extremely disappointed by this because I have a bridal business and shop at Joanne’s often, even though I am constantly disrespected when I shop at this particular store. When this manager heard me talking with a cashier about the matter she came over and told me I needed to go or she would call the police. I am very disturbed by this, and do not feel comfortable going back to this store.

The staff did not want to take the time to help a black customer. I love Joann’s craft store I’m not going to that location again.

Really disappointed in this location. It is always messy and disorganized. This last time I went in looking for three items that they said were available in the app. The staff couldn’t locate any of these items and acted completely put off that they had to even help me. The register person was kind, but otherwise a disappointing experience.

I came in search of DK weight yarn. I was followed around the store and racially profiled like a thief. Each isle I visited, I was followed. My target goal to send was $50 so I could use my coupon so I made a few trips back and forth to and from the register. At the register, I was assisted by Claire. She snatched my money out of my hand very quick and aggressively. I requested the change be kept cause I really didn’t want to carry any coin change + after having my money snatched from my hand, I didn’t want to make any more hand exchanges cause the energy was very weird, I received a snarky remark in reply. I do not like how I was treated today at all. Never in my years of shopping a Joann not even as a child with my grandmother have I been treated like that by Joann Team Members. I’m black, and yes I can in looking very lazy but to be treated like a thief and have money snatched out of my hand is crazy

So sad that what this generation is coming to, it is better to figure that's out before you go because that are not able to help you with simplest questions. I can see why JoAnn Fabric is going out of business. I use to live going to Joann, but now you sit on the floor, supplies is limited, and rudeness is highly in stock

I stopped at the Joann’s Fabric store in Maplewood to look for buttons. I was shocked by the unpleasant greeting and vowed to tell everybody I know Not to shop there. The only reason I completed the purchase was because It had been a long day and I was exhausted, but I will never shop there again.

The store sold a malfunctioning Singer sewing machine to me and refuses to give me my money back. I had this machine less than 1 day. Singer told me to return it to the store. They say there policy won’t let them take it back and that it is written on the receipt. This policy is not on there shelves, you have to purchase the product to find out you can’t return it. These big companies are stealing my money, this is indecent.
