I do not recommend donating to The Salvation Army based on a recent and deeply disappointing experience I had with their furniture pickup service.
I scheduled a donation pickup for the day before my move out date and proactively called to confirm details. I spoke with a representative named Chris and specifically asked whether the pickup team would be able to collect furniture from an upper level apartment unit. He informed me that they do not go upstairs and that all items must be placed on the ground floor. I explained that, as a woman, I would need to find assistance to move heavy furniture such as a dining table, and he acknowledged that. Chris also stated that the pickup window would be between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. This conversation took place around 9:57 AM.
To my surprise, I received a voicemail from him at 11:59 AM saying the driver would arrive between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM, significantly narrowing the original time window. I immediately began preparing to move items downstairs. However, by 12:10 PM, the driver had already arrived and refused to wait, stating I would need to reschedule the pickup because he couldn't sit and wait for the furniture to be brought down.
I was truly trying to do something kind by donating nearly new, high quality furniture to those in need. Items such as a dining table I paid over $1,000 for and used for only a year, a brand new queen size bed frame still in the box, nightstands, a TV stand, a desk and chair, a full size bed frame, and two dressers, all in excellent condition. I was motivated by generosity and faith, believing that giving back would bless others and, in time, bring blessings my way.
This experience left me disheartened, not just by the lack of professionalism, but by how difficult it was to give away items that could truly help others.

My kids were chosen for the angel tree program and I was given a day and time to come and retrieve their gift and no one ever showed up or contacted me about a new date or anything very disappointed. Whoever made the appointment on the first of January made a huge mistake and should have contacted everyone who had that same appointment and time as me. It was a long line full of people and no one ever showed up
