East Wind Community is a business and intentional community. Their East Wind nut butters are amazing. The community is supported by the nut butters business, which funds a comfortable life for a group of 50 or so people. The people are hardworking, caring, and professional with all their projects. They generously share their wisdom about community collaboration and welcome visitors with open arms. They respect the land and tend to it with love. The land is beautiful, and the homegrown food is great. The concept of a business funding a comfortable life for a group is appreciated, as more companies should invest in people rather than a CEO. The community has some issues, including substance abuse that has gotten better, though those who do not drink or smoke may feel alienated at social gatherings. There is also structural inertia and dismissive, conservative thinking among some members. However, the population is just diverse enough in thought that there are always a few people to express concerns to. The community shows improvement and tenacity over the decades, making it a beautiful place with resilience, uniqueness, and historical value. It is definitely worth a visit.
