Overall the historic facility was pretty nice. Although it’s not your typical hotel, it’s charming and refreshing. However, the charm stops with the facility. It was incredibly unwelcoming from the check in process onwards. The hotel was dark and locked upon our arrival. We had to enter with a code to unlock a door in the dark back alley by a dumpster and then haul all of our bags up a narrow back staircase. The rooms were cozy and clean. We were told to officially check in and pay the next morning. After breakfast (the food was delicious and waitstaff was incredible) we asked if we could check in but were told we would have to wait for the hotel staff to show up at 9:30. This was a business trip and we had a meeting at 9:00 so we left. Later that day we received an angry voicemail insisting that we return immediately and pay. To appease the hotel manager we gave our credit cards over the phone. Over the course of a week stay, we were unable to use the charming front entrance more than once because the hotel was essentially locked and close. We were just left to fend for ourselves. The bar restaurant was often closed early or opened late. This is Montana and folks want to be outside and be active. You need to serve breakfast early and be open for supper and drinks later. If anything close for lunch. The restaurant staff was friendly and food was delicious. I greatly preferred the ambiance from before the remodel. The hotel staff (at least management) should be fired if they don’t care enough to be present and run an iconic and historic hotel in the west with pride and dedication. The Grand hotel used to be a place of pride and hospitality for the entire community. I am only writing this review because I am scared that such a long run, historic place of fond memories will imminently go out of business if things don’t change. (Added a star because house keeping was very attentive as brought up in the response from the Hotel. I appreciate the reply)Rooms: Quaint cozy clean historicNearby activities: Mountains fishing huntingFood & drinks: Delicious (Amy the chef’s absence was noticed)

The grand hotel in big timber, Montana needs to be experienced. An old world hotel that has been immaculately maintained. It’s like stepping into yesterday. Most rooms share a common bathroom and shower, but some do have their own private baths. The hotel itself has a restaurant and bar, and there are shops and places to eat right on the street in downtown.I’m so happy and fortunate that I decided to stay there.

Everyone was very kind. Our room was ok. The bathroom window didn't shut. Extremely cold. The heater ran was too hot. Then turn it down, was cold.TV didn't work, no front desk to call.My towel was dirtyI have emailed asking for the manager to call. No return call.We travel and we try to help the small town business. Not this place again. Breaks my heart. We have called multiple times. Left message asking for the manager to call. We have spoken to 2 different employees. They said they would have someone call. Not a call back they are busy smoking outside.

My steak and potato were served cold and the potato was hard. The cut of meat was excellent and it was cooked as ordered, but it was at room temp. I never send good back, but this time I did.

Extremely disappointing Thanksgiving dinner this year. We have a tradition of doing this dinner ever year, but we won't be back. Very few choices, food available was bland. No carving stations. The best thing there were the rolls, and they probably came from Sysco. Very sad, this dinner use to be outstanding. Huge disappointment.

Food was excellent, service was awesome, very friendly. Beautiful building, not what you would expect from such a small town. Worth the stop off of Rt. 90

Service was slow and unattended. Food was undercooked and cold. Told server and didn't get anything off bill. They didn't measure up to their code that was posted outside the entrance

I was excited to stay at this hotel after seeing that it had a 4.4 star rating on Google. However, I should have read the more recent reviews. They are all true in that the staffing is limited and the staff I did ask questions to did not seem to have an answer. I did not enjoy having shared bathrooms. The rooms do not have a TV, only in the shared common area. It wasn’t clear where to get water so I ended up having to fill my water bottle from the sink bathrooms. Overall not the best experience. I don’t think I would stay here again unless it was absolutely necessary.

My wife and I stopped by for dinner on Wednesday night on our trip back to Bozeman from Yellowstone. Great food and service. Might try the hotel if we get back to Montana. (I hope we do)

We had dinner at the restaurant! It was amazing! The prime rib melted in my mouth!! I loved the salad with strawberries, spinach, red onions, pumpkin seeds, and blue cheese! It was a very tasty delight. My asparagus was done perfect l! The dessert was a work of art! Warmed strawberries around a crepe with cool filling and whip cream on every corner! All the decorations were edible as well as beautiful! Chef Mike and his crew are an amazing team! It was worth the trip!Food & drinks: The restaurant is amazing with Chef Mike and crew!

Very disappointed from our stay. The check-in process was non-existant: the hotel was closed with no one at the front desk, and after calling the number at the front desk, I was informed that I should have received a text and phone call with instructions on how to check-in and where to obtain a key. Not only did I not receive the text and phone call, but when provided the instructions over the phone, the key box was empty. The assistant manager/supervisor arrived at the hotel to hand us the key. This was completely ridiculous. Regarding the room, it is a historic hotel so I wasn't expecting anything particularly modern. However, the door knob was missing on the bathroom door so we couldn't shut it for fear of getting stuck inside. It is possible to keep the historic nature of the room while also ensuring that it's safe and repaired correctly. Check-out was strange too. I noted the times that the front desk was supposed to be open and staffed - 8am - and went to drop my key off around 8:10am with the expectation that someone was going to be there. No one was at the front desk. I heard voices down the hall just a bit and saw two people talking. I inquired if the front desk was open and they said not yet. I asked if they were other guests - no - and then if they were staff - yes. I then told them I was trying to check out, gave one of them a key, asked if I had to do anything else to check out, and left. This stay was such a weird and disappointing experience. I have never encountered this level of poor service, mismanagement, and pure apathy before. Will not return nor recommend anyone else to stay here.

We did not stay here but did tour rooms, they were nice, the hotel was spotless. The only thing better than the hotel itself was the service. We ate lunch there and the staff was above and beyond. Give them a try I think you will really enjoy your experience there!!!
