2 stories, really well organized. I loved their tributes to local tribes & all the stories they shared. My favorite story was Stagecoach Mary. She seemed like one tough cookie!! I also appreciated the section on the history of side saddle riding & how much the women in the early 1900s hated it haha I was impressed with their collection of weapons from that time & all the neat artifacts. Not a ton for kids to do, but lots for them to see. I would recommend this for kids 7 & up. Antsy, active kids probably wouldn't enjoy this as much. It's free/donation, so we bought something from the store on our way out.

Wow!!! We had a wonderful time soaking in all of Montana in this adorable museum. Terry was the best, he is so knowledgeable and well educated on Montanan history!! We had one of the best experiences at a museum because of him! He made sure to make us feel welcome and made sure we were well educated by the time we left! Thank you for a wonderful experience and great time!

My wife and I were looking for something simple to pass the time and stumbled upon this museum. What a great experience! We were definitely taken aback by the history, artifacts, and overall substance found within this beautiful museum. A must visit to get to know the surrounding area. Even though there is no entry fee, we felt a donation was the least we could do.

It was a very fascinating place. A lot of History. Some of it very tragic. Lots of antique guns and pistols. There was a chart there showing how the native Americans used every part of the buffalo and what for . I really enjoyed reading that . A fellow can easily spend a hour or more in there . Just a tiny place but truly remarkable and authentic.I loved it.

An excellent free museum. It's a small, charming, eclectic museum that has a combination of Indian history, settler history, local history, and random artifacts. I liked that I learned things about Indian culture and that they had many real Indian artifacts and that they highlighted the specific person that those artifacts belonged to.Eclectic is the key theme though - don't expect to get exhaustive details on any single subject area. Ranging from Calamity Jane's poker game pieces, to Wilfred Brimley's authentic historical chuck wagon, to Red Cloud's deerskins, and an extensive collection of breech loading cap and ball rifles (of which the cartridge size is rarely mentioned), it's a fun place.Even though it was free, I donated at the end of our visit.

My husband and I were passing through Billings and had a couple of free hours in our schedule, so we decided to visit the Yellowstone County Museum. What a gem! Lots of fascinating displays of the history of the area. We really enjoyed the film on Joe Medicine Crow, as we hadn't known anything about him brefore. There was a really good balance of Native American history and white settler history, and we appreciated that each was presented without bias, and with neither presented as better than the other - just different. We really enjoyed our time there, and highly recommend this little museum to other travelers.

A gem of historical regional facts. Also should be noted for giving Native Americans of the region their due historical mention. You should reserve a couple of hours since as small as it is there is lots to see. Good view on a clear day from their balcony.

Works were very nice. The only downside is,I walk with a walker. There is a downstairs, there is no elevator,or lift,to help handicap people downstairs. They say they are working on getting an elevator/lift. But if you can make it downstairs,I say go for it. There is alot to learn.
