About Carter County Museum
The Carter County Museum is located in Ekalaka, Montana, a ranching community of just 400 residents. The museum was founded in 1936 by forward-thinking locals who understood the importance of collecting, preserving, and cataloging historic artifacts and specimens of scientific significance found in the surrounding landscape. The CCM is one of fourteen museums on the Montana Dinosaur Trail and is a sister museum to the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana, and the Amakusa Museum of Goshoura Dinosaur Island in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. The museum is praised for its friendly and helpful staff, as well as its impressive collection of dinosaur fossils and other prehistoric artifacts found in the local area. Visitors describe the museum as an "amazing place" that preserves the community's history and story. The museum also features a cabin and a school on site, providing a glimpse into the rural way of life. With free admission and closing at 5 pm, the Carter County Museum is a must-stop destination for those exploring the history and natural wonders of Montana.

Awesome dinosaur museum. It's small, but has great exhibits. We're glad we decided to stop here on our road trip.

Collection was OK. Some interesting pieces. Mostly organized, but somewhat lacking in interpretation. Was not greeted or recognized by any museum staff or volunteers.
