I would rate 5 star if this shelter was a no kill shelter. This place also needs a remodel the dog shelter part is terrible they also don’t have air conditioning in the dog part every time I’ve gone to this place that have massive fans to circulate the air the problem with that is it’s circulating hot humid air! It also smells horrible and the dogs have very little space to move around I highly suggest that they build a newer updated place for the dogs! The cat housing is also very small with very little space for the cats to move around very sad place!!

They don’t seem like they want dogs to be adopted. They won’t let you interest with the animal when you go in to look at one. It would probably be easier to adopt a kid than it is to get an animal from here.

Every interaction I have had with this place has been nasty. The employees have no sense of professionalism. My husky got out of the house and it’s $50 just for them to pick her up. After that, it’s however much per night even though we were not even informed they had our dog! For 4 nights it came close to $150 when we were only told where she was today! Heartland has no compassion for the people or their fluffy family, plus are totally unfair to certain breeds. My childhood pit bull, the sweetest girl you could have ever met, was put down by this place simply because of her breed. I try my hardest to never cross paths with this business-that’s all it is to them, a business.

We get all our pets from here ***Adoption fees are approximately $120 (expect to spend about $160 After all their fees, taxes, etc.) By law pets have to be spayed and neutered so you adopt them that way which is a nice benefit! They also treat the animals with Revolution for fleas, and make sure they are up to date on their vaccinations. The only thing you'll need to get is their Rabies shot depending on the age I'm assuming not sure if they provide that after so long being there or age? When you get the Rabies shot just show them a copy and you'll get $25 back which is nice. Also, if you want them declawed you'll have to do that yourself and you'll have to keep up their vaccinations and flea treatments as well. ***If you have OTHER PETS, AND OR CHILDREN, you'll have to bring them in for a meet and greet before you can adopt them and take them home to make sure they're a good match. I would call and set up a time for this before showing up with your pets. I WOULD ALSO SUGGEST RESEARCHING THE PET YOU'RE WANTING SO YOU'LL KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU TAKE THEM HOME!!! Please do not just buy your children pets for the holidays, treat them like your children, you can't return them just because you don't like the things they do, or they didn't turn out like you expected :-) Redirect and hope they grow out of this phase! ***As far as the staff goes, I wish they were a little bit more friendly, and customer service oriented. We stood in front of the cat room for quite some time, before they let us know what we could do or how to go about seeing the animals. Your average time there will be about an hour.

Sasha took to her new permanent home immediately. Here she is doing a squirrel census. A really lovely shelter dog and so lucky to have her now as ours.

Not a big fan of this place only due to the fact that my dog is an escape artist and everytime they tack on an extra $20. Hope it at least goes to saving the animals and not putting them down

Had a friend that was trying to get rid of a dog called this place and they told me we should just put her down wouldn’t recommend giving your animals to this rescue center.

I've adopted 2 of my pets from here. They were both rescues and the staff there gave me the whole back story of how they were rescued. They have a cool little shop inside. Seemed a little under staffed but were all around a great experience and I'd highly recommend adopting your next fur baby here

We called on Saturday and set up an appointment for Monday to look at a dog, the lady we talked to was polite and said that the dog we wanted to look at was kid friendly and friendly with other dogs. When my wife and kids went in on Monday with our current dogs to make sure they all get along, the lady was rude to both my wife and kids as soon as they walked in the door and told them that the dog we scheduled an appointment to look at hated kids and other animals. Maybe that was true and maybe the first lady we talked to was misinformed but how my family was treated and talked to by the second lady was very disrespectful and unfortunately we will never adopt a dog from there

It is a very well run shelter. It's clean and the staff are friendly. They do a really good job of matching animals to potential forever homes.
