I went and from 1 - 1:30 pm they were closed for break. I don't know if that's usually the case or not. But the staff here typically are nicer than other locations (less busy too)

Most military bases are the same. One thing that differentiates Offutt is their gym - the field house. It's a gym heaven with an indoor running track, multiple basketball court, cross-fit area, two sauna, a pool, rows and rows of free weights and machines, boxing area, and even a play area for kids. Definitely energizes me every time I get inside. Aside from the gym: The firestone on post has serviced my car on many occasions and they have done a fantastic job. I've also used the post office - that has a 24hr PO Box access. ID card office, household goods, gas station, Burger King, commissary, and post exchange are also not too shabby. Some construction happening on post but it doesn't appear to cause too much of a delay. Getting on and off post during peak times (early morning and during lunch hours) does require some extra time - so plan accordingly.

Home of the 55th Wing and United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM). I'm a USAF veteran, but was never stationed at Offutt AFB. However, my father was and this is the base where I spent my childhood. Lots of fond memories of the base in its glory days as SAC HQ and with all that Reagan era Cold War military funding. The combination of historic (former Fort Crook buildings) and modern is neat. If you can get on base be sure to check out Generals Row. Building 500 is historic too as it is the former home of Strategic Air Command (SAC) headquarters. I believe STRATCOM is housed there now, but they're building STRATCOM a new facility. They have an open house and air show every other year. Seems to be falling on the even years, so be sure to check it out in 2018, 2020, and so on.
