The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, founded in 1981 by artists for artists, is a vibrant space supporting contemporary art through an international residency program, exhibitions, commissions, and public programs. Located in Omaha’s historic Old Market district, it plays an important role in connecting the local community with global cultural discussions. Visitors often find the center to be an interesting and welcoming place, with rotating exhibits and diverse events, including music shows and art displays, all without an admission fee. The building itself, formerly a grocery warehouse, offers a unique atmosphere, with a simple entrance and a descent into a modern, brutalist-style space. Gallery spaces are available for exhibitions, with some currently open and featuring thoughtful art. Visitors appreciate the helpful staff, especially when receiving recommendations for local dining and activities. The venue also includes a service bar and a merchandise area, creating a relaxed environment. Though some note minor issues like loud AC compressors, overall, Bemis Center provides a pleasurable experience that surprises and delights, encouraging support for its ongoing contributions to the arts.

Hannah B. was exceptionally helpful with making recommendations not only on what to do while visiting the fine city of Omaha, but also in referring us to ravishing restaurants with rave reviews in which I found to be ridiculously riveting.

Up and coming art center! There are lots of available gallery spaces still available. The ones that were open today had some good thought providing art.
