The Florence Mill originated as the 1846 Winter Quarters gristmill on the Mormon Trail. A National Register Historic site, restoration from ruin began in 1998 & is now a cultural & heritage tourism attraction connecting agriculture, history & art. First floor houses a museum. Second floor is the ArtLoft studio/gallery. The Sunday Farmers Market brings contemporary agriculture to a formerly dilapidated Mill & Grain Elevator. (Sunday’s 10-3 from June through September with live music, food trucks & critter encounters.) Note: Without heat or water, the Florence Mill hibernates thru winter: from mid-October to mid-May.
A cool little slice of history in north Omaha. We visited on a Sunday in June and there was a small farmer's market and live music as well. The highlight of our time there was meeting the sweet highland cow. 🐄
