“I have been a patient here since 2013. This is not only an excellent medical practice, but also an inclusive and affirming place.

One thing I really like about it here is that every employee is a woman. And the place is welcoming to small children. It offers a place where children are shown what medical practice can look like. I recall a few years ago that Dr McGill was caring for a very little person, whom I assume was her grandchild, and I was receiving my annual physical. The little girl was invited into my examination room to test my knee reflexes. I thought it was adorable and immensely community-affirming. Front desk employees and medical staff have been known to bring their babies to work, where the children are permitted to be children while their mothers do their jobs. And never once have I seen a disruptive child there.

Another thing I really like is that Dr McGill is almost always working with a student. To me, this indicates an amazing amount of patience. That she is willing to work at the pace the student needs, which also enhances the time the patient gets with care.

Finally, Dr McGill is willing to listen to patient feedback, and weigh it as reasonable. Years ago when I was questioning something, she carefully explained why I was wrong without making me feel stupid. Another time, when she was explaining a potential treatment, she took out a pen and started drawing a visual aid on the paper covering the exam table. She really wanted to make sure that I understood. And I have not experienced something like this with any other PCP before in my life.
