An absolute must for Willa Cather fans and for anyone interested in our prairie pioneers and what they endured. The center has well organized exhibits and make sure you see the opera house on the second floor.
We experience the Prairie Tour and the City Tour and learned so much from both. There are self guided tours also, but we really enjoyed our time on the tours. Nick is a well informed and patient tour guide.
The Willa Cather Guest house is a wonderful Air B&B.

This is a great place to learn about Willa Cather. There's a bookshop that has all her books and related books as well. There's also a selection of books for kids and adults about nature and Nebraska. The museum is nicely arrayed with timelines showing Cather's life and what was happening in the world. Quotes from her books and how some of them came about are intermixed with info and pictures about her life. There's a gallery upstairs that I didn't have time to see. Red Cloud has more sites related to Cather and her family. The museum provides a map so you do a self-guided tour. It's definitely worth a stop to learn more about this famous resident.

Prior to visiting, I did not know much about Willa Cather. The museum definitely informed me about her storied career and life. I walked away with a new appreciate for her as a person and author. The museum was just large enough to provide insight to her story while not feeling overwhelming. The museum itself is located in an old theater that has been converted into a museum and community space. I enjoyed the art gallery attached that displayed local artists. If you're ever in the vicinity of Red Cloud, NE, make sure to stop by for a visit!

We stopped in to the Willa Cather Center downtown and just toured the displays there on our own. We had fun looking at all the historic photos of life in Red Cloud. What we did was free and fun.

I highly recommend visiting here, even if you have no idea who Willa Cather is. You'll get a great education from the foundation, either in person or through their app. The museum is a fantastic telling of Willa Cather's life and the gift shop has all of her books. There's even a cool art gallery!

Bad signage. Staff too busy on phone to help. Very disappointing. Response to your mail. There was only one other person in the place and two staff on phone one on business and one on a cell phone . A sign to the restroom would be one of many examples.

Accommodating, stairs or elevator. All volunteers gracious with help and smiles. The refreshments looked nice and tasteful.

We drove all the way to Red Cloud from North Platte on our way to Lincoln as part of our tour of Nebraska. It was really out of the way, but my husband knew I was a fan of Willa Cather, so he booked us into her Second Home for the night, and we toured her childhood home and a few other historical buildings pertinent to her time and novels. There is a small museum and gift shop where you buy tickets and organize the tour, and in the top of that building is the old opera house that is now used for plays and musical productions. Her childhood home is small but full of original Cather belongings and some of the period. You can see how she was inspired to write her famous pioneer trilogy. Our guide, Alexis, was very helpful and knowledgeable.
