Ashfall Fossil Beds is an active dig site and part of the University of Nebraska State Museum. Guests can explore museum exhibits about the history of the park in our visitor center, watch our researchers excavate fossils (left in-situ) in our Rhino Barn, or talk with researchers in our Working Visible Lab. A variety of nature trails include watchable wildlife signs. Enjoy a picnic in our picnic pavilion, or let the kids become a paleontologist by digging in our fossil sandbox in the Heritage Center.
I love it here I learned so much. It is a really cool place if you like history or fossil.

This is an amazing place to see one of the horses' ancestor species in full. It is a sad story but fascinating for science and horse lovers alike. I herd about it (pun intended) from the amazing natural history book, 'The Horse: the Epic History of our Noble Companion' by journalist Wendy Williams, and had to go.
