The Nevada State Museum is housed in the historic U.S. Branch Mint at Carson City. It preserves and shares Nevada’s storied past, from eons-old geology and prehistoric animals to American Indian culture, mining, and Western settlement. The museum is surprisingly large with a lot to see, offering a little bit of everything. Exhibits include a very large gun display, many old west artifacts and pictures, a good selection of animals and minerals, and thorough information from the beginning of time. A real coin press does demonstrations, and there is a neat mine in the basement. The museum is clean, air-conditioned, and has nice bathrooms. It is a Blue Star Museum, free in summer for military, and kids are always free. With friendly and informative staff, it is a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours with the family.
