What is wrong with you guys? 8 dollars per adult? It cost us 32 dollars just to walk through a place that used to be free. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. We traveled a long way just to go to your museum and never will again!!!

This museum is a must-see for one reason: taxidermy. It has an incredible collection of taxidermy from animals all around the globe. There are sections for simply Nevada animals, North American animals as a whole, animals from Africa, animals from the Arctic, and more. There is even a crocodile that someone hunted in Egypt and then moved across the world to this museum.
To say that I was amazed would be an understatement. I was never an avid fan of taxidermy, but these exhibits blew all my expectations and impressed me beyond what I could fathom. The fact that so many animals from all around the world are preserved for display in this small town must be seen. Some are even preserved in poses, looking like they are still stalking their prey, or that they may come alive at any moment as you’re observing them. Come see this museum, it was one of the best I have ever seen.

Good museum with history and stories.
What is special here is the collection of wild animals from different continents.
Price is moderate.

This is an interesting museum for a small city. The natural history section has really marvellous taxidermied animal displays as good as any I have ever seen, including the San Francisco Natural History Museum. They have a historical section of locally-significant items, plus a truely impressive collection of antique firearms--and a locally found mammoth.
My favorite part is the displays of artwork by local artists and photographers. I go home with something new to look at every time I go.

When I went, I asked where the restroom was. Rather than hello or welcome. I was asked "are you a customer ? Restrooms are for customers only". What does it matter? I am visiting a museum. I had travelers with me. Yes...we did walk around, took pictures, but did not "buy" anything. This is a great rest stop for traveling folks especially with the park right behind the building. NOT a good greeting to me or my guests. I was showing off my/our beautiful town and area. How about a great welcome of "Welcome to the gateway to the Rubies" or even Hello. ?

Art and history mixed together. Loved all the "stuffed" animals. Hard to say in these times and days but they were displayed very very well. The poise and placement was very picturesque. Love the books and artwork of Will Bill James. That was great. I've haven't heard about him before and I feel left out of the loop. Thanks for sharing the letters he wrote. Excellent collection. Very impressed with this museum. Gun collection were well displayed and extensive. A+++

Lots of history, stuffed animals, not the toy kind, and amazing art to be seen. Didn't know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. On the first floor, there were animals from all around the world. All posed in different positions, it was a truly unique experience. They were fascinating to look at. I enjoyed that part quite a bit. Upstairs, they had art displayed from the local schools, and some of those pieces were quite impressive. Some of those kids have some reap talent. You'll also find art from Ansel Adam's and my personal favorite Edward Borein. There is so much to look at you can spend a lot of time in here. We then headed back downstairs where there was Native American bead work on display and weaved baskets. They had lots of displays for the history of Elko, including a tribute Bing Crosby and lots of guns. It was all very interesting and ie a must-see for any history buffs or anyone who wants to know more about the area.

I made a delivery here and afterwords looked around. It is par for the course as far as other museums I have visited, slightly smaller than others, but they pack a lot into the museum. They have a ton of pretty interesting historical things to look at here. In addition to the historical displays, they have a ton of different souvenirs available to buy. I bought a pin and a few "brothel tokens". The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. If you are into historical, museum type stuff, this is definitely worth checking out.

Awesome! They have a mammoth skeleton that was found in a teacher's yard out in Spring Creek. They hold plays in a room with multiple stages circling the seating area which rotates to orientate to each. The wildlife section is great. Well preserved taxidermy specimens. And they have a room filled with mounts from all over the world. Highly recommend it they always have something going on for kids.

Highly worth this especially if you live in the Elko area I highly recommend that everyone who lives in the Elko area goes and visits the newspaper archives in the back of the building just ask the person at the front desk to direct you there she'll point you the way they have a very large collection of newspapers from the Elko area dating back to the 1800s they also have amazing displays throughout including a wide variety of animals in the Wanamaker display
