I’ve had mixed experiences at the VCA. Some occurrences have been helpful, the app is convenient and organized, and the staff are kind. However, there have been a few recent occasions that have led me to write this review about my disappointment in how the doctor (Dr. Davis) handled my concerns and situations.I have reached out about an issue where my dog wasn’t eating and the need to review their dental health. The doctor saw no issue and dismissed my concerns, did not examine further, and did not ask any other questions about my dog’s change in appetite. She discussed why not to do a traditional dental cleaning but did not offer any other preventative suggestions. Fast forward a few weeks later and it turns into a medical emergency where my dog has a tooth root abscess. I had to take her to the ER immediately as her face was bleeding.Additionally the doctor misdiagnosed my cat to have ringworm when the lab results showed negative and never resulted in positive for ringworm. She then prescribed oral medication which gave my cat an adverse reaction and made her situation worse.I like the facility and still appreciate the efforts made, but I am just severely disappointed in how things have panned out, so much so that am considering going to another veterinarian that is further away. On top of that, their services are pricey and I would hope for more genuine care than what I’ve received. I want to trust their expertise and am hoping the other staff/doctors can help regain my trust with the right treatment for my animals.

Our dog Louie has pretty severe allergies- he’s basically allergic to existing. We give him do much love and routine care with a special diet and medicated baths and shots, but he still flares up from time to time.Other vet locations have always acted like we are at fault for his flare ups, making us nervous to seek care when necessary. Here, they make it clear they know we love and adore our boy and do everything in our power and are always so helpful and caring ! It makes it so much safer to get the care we need.In top of that, Louie is a bully breed and not one member of the staff has ever reacted fearfully toward him. They shower him in love and affection, and he eats it all up. I’m so thankful for this office and the care they provide us.

Amazing staff. Office and our vet tech. Amazing Dr. Rachel. No.long.wait.time. for an appointment or for the day of our appointment. Vet tech and Dr. were both gentle with the girls. Patient with all my 100s of questions. Moving isn't fun. But they made this part so easy. Thank you.

I made an appointment online and received a confirmation email. Apparently I was sent a text message (I block unknown calls and texts to avoid scams) demanding a deposit to keep my appointment. I did not reply as I did not see it, though I went to my spam folder and it was indeed there. Still, 2 days ago, and 3 days after the text, I received a second confirmation email for my appointment. There was no email requesting a deposit, and I have never left a deposit for a medical appointment in my life. When I showed up to the appointment they informed me they had cancelled as I did not reply to the text message. They need a better system than cancelling because of a text message, but then sending a confirmation AFTER the cancellation. Very unprofessional

Although my pets have received excellent care from VCA over the years beware of Dr.Davis. On one occasion I was told by Dr. Davis that my dogs skin condition was "weird". She suggested a 1500 dollar biopsy to determine the cause. I denied due to it sounding very shady to me. To make matters worse,I Googled common skin conditions of dogs. #5 on the list was folliculitus. Exactly the condition my puppy was suffering from. This condition is very common to pitbulls. Now she has denied her the medication my pup needs to get better because I won't bring her in for a third exam visit in order to give her the antibiotics she needs to fully heal. Don't know about the other vets here but Dr.Davis is shady as it gets!

Last time I was at the vet, the employee who brought out my dog was clearly annoyed by having to clean my dogs anal glands. I understand that isn't a pleasant job, but the fact she displayed her annoyance to me about the task was extremely unprofessional. She made it seem as if the build-up was from my own negligence, but I get my dogs anal glands cleaned regularly. I'm sure all the staff treats the animals well, but that interaction left me questioning. I decided to find a new vet and I'm glad I did. VCA charges $50 for anal glands and $15 for nail trims. I now pay $30 total for her anal glands to be cleaned and nails trimmed.

We unexpectedly had to find a new veterinarian at the same time our oldest dog was becoming seriously ill with cancer, so our first visit to VCA Black Mountain Animal Hospital was to have them put our 14 year old Lab to sleep. The staff all treated us with kindness and compassion. It was a tender mercy. I’m confident my two younger dogs will be treated well here, as well. I’ve transferred their records here.

We were very grateful for the care and support that we received from VCA Black Mountain Animal Hospital when our dog passed away. The staff was incredibly compassionate and understanding, and they made sure that we were comfortable and supported during this difficult time.We called the hospital last minute, and they were still able to accommodate us. They were very understanding of our situation and were immediately supportive. They took the time to explain everything to us, and they made sure that we were comfortable with every decision that we made. They also gave us the peace of mind and reassurance that we needed during a very difficult time.We would highly recommend VCA Black Mountain Animal Hospital to anyone who is looking for a compassionate and supportive veterinary hospital. They were truly there for us when we needed them most, and we are so grateful for their compassion.

Our 1 1/2 cat ( Tuna) was taken in to see Dr Boltz be he was constantly biting the base of his tail. I tried getting in to see her via an online portal appt, but I was unsuccessful. I called in and they gave me an appointment the next day with her. The reception staff was awesome when we arrived. They liked his uncommon name (named After big tuna - Jim) Dr Boltz saw him and immediately went to work trying to find out what was happening. We talked about everything it's not, and the few it could be. Nothing serious of course. She sat and explained she's gonna get this to stop for him etc. it's no wonder she's a "cat whisperer" Almost 2 weeks later and we're starting to see improvements. Yes, it can be a bit spendy but what you get with Dr is nothing short of the best the valley has to offer. I'm glad we live close enough. Excellence is Dr. Boltz

The staff was so kind to my sister's elderly Chihuahua. She wasn't as sick as we thought. The price was right too. ?

We have only had one experience with this veterinary hospital so far, but it was worthy of five stars. Our 15-year-old dog had a medical emergency earlier this week and had to be euthanized. When I called, the staff was super friendly and sympathetic and they were able to get us an appointment within the hour, which is pretty remarkable, especially for a new client. While we were waiting for a room, they offered us bottles of water. Once in the room, they were very gentle with Sis, and explained what would happen and let my husband hold her during the procedure. They knew as we did that her time was up, and didn't charge us a separate fee for an "evaluation" of her condition. Every single employee there was very compassionate and just two days later, we received a sympathy card from them with Sis's paw prints in it, signed by all the employees. We absolutely recommend this veterinarian!
