We came across this store while on holiday in Reno. We're from a farming country, New Zealand, and we have plenty of Farm shops and supply stores. But this one takes the cake! It has everything you'll ever need, and some fantastic country clothing. We spent about 2 hours just wandering around the shelves, and had a lovely conversation with an employee who was well informed and very friendly. You are very lucky to have such a store!

Boots for me, shoes for the mare.
Ammo is $$$$ here, but there is a good selection if you're not price-picky or in a rush.
Good selection of Ariat boots in every flavor from riding, to work, snow, and worn-once-for-a-wedding.
Lackluster selection of hats, but any real Nevada hoss will have a hand made 50x Nevada anyway.
Tools and parts out the wazoo. Feed, fencing, flannel coats.
Staff is helpful when needed, and will leave you alone if not. (Major bonus)

Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service.
I'm 61 and am on oxygen. I also have had 5 shoulder surgeries. 5 lumbar surgeries.
I asked for assistance putting dog food in my cart.
There was NO HELP.
I TORE MY LEFT SHOULDER.
I begged for assistance putting my large bag of dog food in my car. Cashier ROLLED HIS EYES AND SIGHED LOUDLY FOR THE 2ND TIME AND TOLD ME NO!!!.
I WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN.

My Very First & Only Experience at Cal Ranch’
I live in Reno Nevada. I was unaware that we have a Cal Ranch store. I called Petco looking for a specific product, they told me they did not carry it and they told me to go to the Cal Ranch store. That’s when I was first made aware that Cal Ranch was in Reno.
I was so excited to finally see what Cal Ranch was all about! Plus, I really needed this specific product, so I was looking forward to seeing the inside of Cal Ranch and finding the product that I have been needing for a couple weeks.
As I entered into the store, I was blown away! I said hello to the three employees that were standing around talking to each other(they weren’t working). They looked shocked and irritated that I was there.
They were not friendly or welcoming in any way, shape or form. I asked them where I could find this specific product and they pointed in a direction and said it was past another product. These three employees were not working at all, they were just standing around, visiting with each other.
It just so happens that I am visually impaired, making it very difficult for me to find products on my own. Because of how unfriendly the employees were, I decided not to ask them for help. I proceeded to go on a hunt for the product and I was not able to find it.
Eventually, another employee was walking past and I asked her if she worked there and if she could help me. She also was very aggravated that I even asked her for help! She was totally unaware on whether or not Cal Ranch carried that product. Another employee was passing by at the end of the aisle, and she asked him if he knew where that product was. His answer was, “whatever’s in the aisle is all that we have” and then he walked away. He was irritated that she asked him. All four of these employees had the worst attitude I have ever seen out of every store I’ve ever been to!
I proceeded to try and just find a different product, in order to see if I can make it work.
The isle was a complete mess. I believe I spent about 30 or 40 minutes trying to figure out what to do. I eventually got fed up and left the store.
It left a bad taste in my mouth and I have no interest in ever returning to Cal Ranch.
Most likely I’m just going buy the product that I need from Amazon, Walmart, Petco or Petsmart.
I watched a Cal Ranch history video on YouTube and it’s a crying shame that it doesn’t mimic the experience that I had at Cal Ranch.
The employees did not care at all about me and it was as if they were mad that there was even a customer in their store!
I have no interest in going back to Ranch for any reason!
I own a large business in Reno. The entire community of Reno, Sparks and the surrounding regions are my customers. I would never dream of treating them the way I was treated at Cal Ranch.
I know Cal Ranch isn’t looking for advice, but I will give it anyway. Fire all of those employees. Hire someone who actually cares about customers. Hire someone who will clean up and organize the products on the shelves. If you can’t find anyone, then close your doors.
I was going to spend some good money at Cal Ranch, but instead, I spent $0.00.
Cal Ranch was paying at least 4 employees during my visit. There was only one other customer in the store at the time. Did Cal Ranch break even? Make a profit or lose money? Apparently Cal Ranch doesn’t need my money. They made that very clear to me on my first and only visit.
Just because we are all living in a bizarre era, doesn’t give anyone the right to treat others poorly and it doesn’t give people the right to not do their job when they are receiving a paycheck.
