The Kiwanis Activity Center and Bike Program refurbishes bicycles and offers them at great prices, including reconditioned and consignment bikes. It is an excellent program that teaches kids valuable skills by having them learn to repair and refurbish bikes. The shop provides bike safety checks and repairs with help from mechanics, and also conducts bicycle and pedestrian safety education. For a bike clinic, it is best to call to schedule a time during shop hours or for groups by appointment. A special service is offered for Burning Man participants. The program refurbishes Burning Man bikes and accepts them back after the event to leave no trace, making it easy for out-of-town burners. Bikes can be dropped off at several fire department stations available 24 hours a day, with weekly pickups. This provides an affordable bike option while supporting a great community program. The atmosphere is friendly and volunteers are welcome, offering a chance to get hands dirty and learn how bikes work.
