I dropped off my vehicle for servicing as I was going to be away for work for 3 weeks. When I received my truck back from gautreau's, a service light came on the dash "service electronic brake system". I returned to gautreau's and explained that the light came on when I first got into the truck and that it wasnt there before. Since I went for a full brake job, I figured they must have broke a sensor.
They checked it out, said they never saw this problem and insisted "its not anything I did". I dont understand how you can service a brake job, and then claim it NOT your fault when a code appears that says "service electronic brake system". Im baffled that not only are they unskilled to match my expectations but that they would lie to me like cowards. Little boys these clowns are..

Very happy with my first experience here. I was using another place for vehicle repair/maintenance since moving here 3 years ago but always felt I was getting gouged. Decided to change to have my power steering repaired and the service was great as was the pricing. They did not try to oversell me on things I didn't need. My old place would have tried to tell me the pump was gone as was the in and out lines. Thank you Gautreaus! You are now my goto thanks to your honesty!

I don't write reviews, this is my first, but I felt strongly about sharing my experience. My work vehicle's alternator failed while I was driving, so I had to get it towed to a local repair shop. I was out of my home province of PEI and getting back to collect the vehicle wasn't simple. This incident happened in NB quite a way out of Shediac. The towing company, which was great, recommended this auto-shop as the best in the area, so I was towed there. This was just fine.
It was after hours when this happened, and I left my van at the auto shop on a Wednesday night. I had an in-person discussion with the mechanic Thursday when I went back to advise him of the vehicle challenges and to ask if he could do the work. He said he wouldn’t be able to look at it until the following week. I made it clear that I required a quote. He reiterated that he couldn’t even look at it until Friday and wouldn’t be able to undertake any work until the next week. At this point, I wasn't concerned because I understood the timeline and personally reconciled the challenges ahead. I had to organize a bus back to PEI and did so.
However, I received a call on Friday saying the alternator was replaced and the vehicle was ready for pick-up. While a rational person might think, "Great, my vehicle is ready," I became very frustrated by the mechanic’s poor judgment. Firstly, he didn't provide a quote, and I ended up with a $980 bill that I had no choice but to pay before picking up the vehicle. Imagine if I were a single mom trying to make ends meet—this could have been a major issue.
Secondly, my choices were taken from me. I could have arranged for someone to come with a trailer to take the vehicle back to my home province. Now, I am faced with an extra trip and a $50 toll charge and gas each time I must return plus the involvement of another person. It might have been more affordable for me to stay another night. Now I have another vehicle, two people, 1.5 amount of the gas and a Bridge toll to pay on top of a bill that I didn’t know what the invoice amount was going to be.
Thirdly, the arrogance of spending another person’s money without consulting them is appalling. If this is his standard practice, it raises a red flag. I'm not questioning the quality of his mechanical workmanship—I’m not a mechanic and can't assess that. But I can speak to the service I received. He may be a nice person (however you want to frame the situation) but spending someone else's money without consultation is unacceptable.
Imagine dining at a restaurant with no prices on the menu, you would ask for prices and then if you didn’t get them, but a meal arrived without you ordering it, and along came a bill, you wouldn’t pay and walk out. This is in effect what took place, but he could hold me to ransom as I had no choice but to pay so I could collect a vehicle. I would guess people would be very angry, and the same principle applies here.
Beware of his practices; they are unacceptable. I haven't spoken to him about this review, so it will be as much of a surprise to him as the bill was to me ( I chose to manage him this way, reflecting the way he chose to manage my money). Always get quotes — if your vendor is not willing to provide a quote, do not use their services. If they do the work without quoting you are within your rights and ask them to undo the work, they did that was unauthorized. I chose to pay the bill and create some protection for others hoping that this review would be read.

Quick and friendly service! I called in about a small issue with my truck’s hood, and they were able to take a look & fix it that afternoon.

The best repair shop for your car or truck in the Shediac area. They do provincial inspections, sell and install tires, rustproof your vehicle and make all kind of repairs and maintenance. They never try to overcharge or to perform unnecessary work. Very trustworthy.
