Forest Society North at The Rocks

Hours: The stone walls and historic buildings at The Rocks evoke the pastoral beauty of turn-of-the-20th Century New Hampshire. Now home to Forest Society North, The Rocks was once the summer home of Chicago businessman John Jacob Glessner and family. In 1978, Glessner's grandchildren donated the 1,400-acre property to the Forest Society, with the requirement that there always be a crop in the field. For more than three decades, that crop has been Christmas trees, and families visit each winter to find their perfect tree. The Forest Society offers a host of other activities at The Rocks, from the NH Maple Experience to educational tours. Trails open year-round. Accessible bathrooms open daily to the public (8 AM- 4 PM) in the Carriage Barn. Visitors describe the experience as exceptional, with scenic and serene grounds, beautiful architecture, and interesting historical items. The property offers a variety of activities, including a craft fair, horse cart rides, and free concerts on the green. While some trails may be poorly maintained, the overall experience is worth the visit, with friendly staff, a lovely gift shop, and the opportunity to explore the historic buildings and learn about the property's past.
