International Mountain Equipment is an awesome store and the real deal for climbing and mountaineering in the Whites. It is by far the best climbing and mountaineering shop, with fantastic experiences in guided rock climbing and ice climbing trips. The staff provide incredible customer service, spending ample time helping with gear, from introducing styles and brands to fitting and adjusting equipment. Their knowledge is fantastic, whether for gear or mountain advice. The shop also has a great consignment section, making an expensive hobby more accessible. Customers report very happy experiences with the guides, noting their incredible leadership, patience, knowledge, and thoroughness. It is a great place to start and is highly recommended.
Great new and used gear selection, especially all the mountaineering boots they have in stock so you can try them on. Staff was very friendly too. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area. Support small businesses!

Friendly and knowledgeable sale staff who seem to actually use and care about the gear they sell. I’m not from New England but whenever I’m here for the annual ice festivals and need some miscellaneous gear I try to support them over REI.
