What a great machine shop! I only had a small job - extracting a sheared bolt out of a fork tube from a 50 year old Honda motorcycle. Greg took my job right in and turned it around with astonishing speed for a super fair price. He showed me all around his amazing shop, and showed me some of the impressive engine rebuilds he was working on. Great guy, great shop, great find.

Grab your popcorn and prepare for a read: I first came across AutoShop Machine Services while I was searching for a reputable machine shop to take my B18B1 block to have built. Many shops prior to contacting Greg straight up either shot me down or gave me some extraordinary wait time. I called the shop, explained to Greg what exactly I was looking to do and was told to call back after a couple weeks and he’d be able to give me a drop off date. On that second call, I was given a day to drop off the block along with the parts. This was a full short block build on OEM sleeves. Pistons, Rods, Crank, Girdle, and a slew of other new parts were going into this block. After he inspected the parts he gave me a more than reasonable wait time for the new motor to be balanced and built. We talked about my ultimate goals for this motor which was a fun turbo street car that sees light track use. Power goal was 400whp at 18psi and so he built the block accordingly. A couple months later I one day get the call that my block is ready for pick up and I schedule a time to come by the shop. Upon first sight everything looked amazing, the block was extremely clean with all the new parts installed. I paid him the extremely reasonable price for having all that work done and took the block down to my mechanic. To make a long story short, I found out that my cylinder head requires machine work as well as a freshen up. Race car parts aren’t meant for longevity, and I was using a cam and spring combo that ended up chewing away my GSC T1 cams. I talked to Greg about my newfound dilemma and he explained to me the best way of going about it. I dropped off my cylinder head at his shop and we talked over what it needed. New valves, valve exhaust valve guides, and valve seals.I purchased everything then dropped the parts off the following week. Greg took no time cleaning, machining, and reassembling the head. I picked up the head and dropped it off to my mechanic to have completely new parts put in, going the OEM route this time to ensure maximum longevity on my new build.Greg informed me of the proper first start procedure and gave me key knowledge on the very nuanced aspects of a successful break in process. Things you’d never learn until you actually ran into certain situations or experiences, GOLD! On the day of start up, my tuner is present to ensure everything goes flawless and after all that time, effort and money I was very happy when the first start up went without a single hiccup. No leaks, no weird noises, no smoke, just a very quiet and smooth running engine. Music to my ears. We high idle the car immediately to break in the new cams and dump that oil, just as Greg instructed to after about 20 minutes of run time varying the load and rpms. Greg informed me that that first dump used oil should look like little glitter, actually what I saw I would describe as even finer than glitter. It looked like extremely fine, silver dust in the oil. I could not even see it unless I shined my flashlight directly on the oil. My mechanic looked at me and said “That’s amazing.” This motor was built by a perfectionist and it shows. I have had motors built before and never have I seen such little particles on the first start up, they are usually a lot more noticeable. I was almost at a loss for words.I’ve been boosting away at 15psi on an extremely conservative tune, dyno session scheduled for next month. My tuner mentions how well built and easy to tune my car has been. She feels extremely healthy and turbo spools quicker than my last setup, even though I went from a 2.0L to a 1.8L. Greg worked some magic on the cylinder head! I honestly could not be happier with my experience with AutoShop Machine Services. They will be my go-to machine shop for everything!UPDATE: made 430whp 300lbft @ 16psi on the dynapack hub dyno. Made it with extreme ease, and the oil change following the dyno session was extremely clean. My magnetic drain plug didnt have anything on it. Greg is an absolute legend.Services: Auto engine tuning

Purchased roughly $10k in parts for my 2.4 liter toyota motor to be built by Greg. Motor failure happened after 800 miles. Dropping a valve into the cylinder after the cam on the exhaust side ate through 6 out of the 8 valve buckets on the exhaust side of the motor. $600 set of cams are junk now. Told me it was going to cost me more money. Lol ? ya I pulled my parts out of his shop. Once was enough for me. Very expensive lesson learned. Steer clear. Unless you want and expensive lesson of measurements or something gone wrong. So if you don’t have $15 to $20k dollars to blow in the wind run!!Service: Motor building

Greg did an amazing job sorting out my Golf R cylinder head seats and decked the head to ensure it was straight. He also looked over everything and ensured my block bores were good.

Professional quality done right . I'd recommend thier services based on my experience ;-) My 1.8L 170K+ toyota had worn lower end & burned exhaust valves so I brought them the short-block and head to 'freshen-up' ~ Work was completed within quoted timeframe. Cost was transparent & reasonable. We just re-assembled & fired it up tonite ;-) sounds perfect - yeah it's green! (had helpers)

My 99 Suburban with 300K+ miles had low compression on cylinder 3 and was backfiring, shaking, with multiple misfires etc. I wanted to fix just the exact issue causing a problem given the age and mileage. I didn't want to have to put too much money into it. I removed and brought the head to Autoshop Machine services after using water and a compressor to test for leaks. I had found the exhaust valve seat on the #3 cylinder valve leaking. After some discussion and agreement Greg did a pressure test to rule out a few cracks as potential issues. It passed. He recommended bumping both valve seats not just the leaky one and it's a good thing he did as he found the other valve had a wobble and was likely the true source of the issue. He bumped both valve seats and replaced the bad valve with a new one I purchased for him. This saved me an immense and potential headache. All told the work was done in 24 hours and after I put my engine back together it runs better than new, humming quietly with no more misfires or backfiring. Great work, great value, super quick and for a very reasonable price. Thank you!Service: Engine repair

I have a mercury 2 stroke 175xr2 sportjet with a V-6, 2.5 litre engine, my oil pump failed and my engine had a complete meltdown( destroyed). Greg was only machine shop in a 60 mile radius to take on the job, not one mechanic or machine shop would take on the job, in fact all said they couldn't do it or that my engine was junk and would have to buy a new one. after 3 years of not taking "NO" for an answer I found Greg, He surprised me by saying "YES" he could do it and not only did he do it, but he did it for $500.00. My boat is now screaming around the lake at 60mph!!! faster than it ever was before. Thanks GREG!!!!Services: Engine repair
