Left Bank Books is a charming used bookstore located in a cozy second-floor space, overflowing with a diverse and serendipitous selection of books. Established in 1999, the shop nearly closed during the pandemic but was saved by a new owner and the generosity of the community, who have donated boxes of books, some with insightful notes from retiring professors. Despite its small size, the store boasts an impressive inventory, including rare books, first editions, and a well-curated poetry section. Customers can often find unexpected gems, from out-of-print titles to hardcover Henry Kingsley novels. The literary-leaning collection is complemented by the store's sustainable business model, as shoppers can buy books while supporting a local, independent bookshop. Described as a "must-visit" for students and travelers, Left Bank Books is praised for its knowledgeable staff, who provide excellent recommendations. Whether you're searching for a specific title or simply browsing, this charming bookstore offers a delightful experience, with its cozy atmosphere and the thrill of unexpected discoveries.
For such a small space I often find myself lost in their huge selection. I always find a decently-priced treasure or two when I go in. One of my favorite places in Hanover.

Pleasant shop. It is small, so some "sections" are a single shelf. Above average poetry section for the size. The books in stock were in good condition generally. They have some rare books and first editions if you are a collector. Worth stopping if you are in town but not a special trip destination for bookhounds.
