Mr. and Mrs. Shomaker are just lovely and very welcoming. They are a wealth of knowledge and have a wealth of history preserved here. They have raised funds to preserve and archive the town of Jackson and their museum is a host of artists renditions of the white mountains. (ask them about the library across the street!) 19th to 21st century art is here and there’s a special exhibit upstairs that you should see that focuses on 19th century art from women specifically, inspired by the region. The museum is free but there’s a donation bin that is worth your consideration. People that do this kind of work (what the Shomakers do) are invaluable, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate those that act to preserve the past. I expect I’ll be coming back here first chance I get next time I’m passing through.

Visited here today, if you're in Jackson it's worth popping your head in. Some great artwork on display. A nice man called Warren was working there, who gave us some good tips on where to find the best views in the White Mountains, and explained where the paintings were from.

Among the best exhibition spaces in New Hampshire. Every year they exhibit amazing 19th century White Mountain landscape paintings from private collections for the public to enjoy in Jackson.

Warren (age 90 in Jan 2014) put his heart and soul into building this museum filled with a magnificent collection of white mountain art. The collection is fabulous, stay 5 minutes or a few hours - admission is free and Warren will give you a guided tour or let you explore on your own, whichever is your preference - you are never rushed, but are free to make it a short peek when that's what time permits - free admission a must see if you are in the area (they also have a very large topographical map of the White Mountains - fun for hikers and kids of all ages).
