I called on Tuesday and was able to schedule an appointment for Thursday. The front desk staff was very friendly and asked the right questions to get to the issue. Scheduling was quick and easy. The mechanic was wonderful! He called to let me know what the issue was and spoke to me about options. He was very transparent and respectful when speaking to me about the options to repair my exhaust system and he didn't make me feel foolish for asking questions to lead me to the right decision for my budget and my vehicles needs. In addition to the work on my exhaust, they were able to perform my state inspection while they had my vehicle in their possession which was not originally on my appointment paperwork (I requested it during drop off). The work was finished in a very timely manner (drop off at 8:00am, finished at 2:40pm) and the price was incredibly reasonable! I was very impressed with the experience altogether and will definitely be returning! I will also be recommending Approved Auto Service to friends and family.

Check engine light was on in my car and needed it off before impending inspection. Read the codes at home which returned as an issue with the EVAP system. Had the car looked at by someone qualified for a diagnoses and was told the purge valve needed to be replaced. Could not get it done within the necessary time constraints by first contact and needed to seek an alternative mechanic. Called to make an appointment with Approved Auto and asked that the purge valve be replaced given the scanner codes and info from the first diagnostic eval. Was told that the car would need to be diagnosed by AA before purge valve could be replaced, which was fine. Picked up the car the day of the appointment and paid just under $400. Drove the car for 2 days, the check engine came back on. Called back and made an appointment for a little over a week out to get it looked at again, because I could not be without a vehicle for the upcoming week. Found out through course of discussion after the second drop off that the purge valve was not replaced, but rather the vent solenoid. It was ultimately determined that the purge valve did need to be replaced, which they offered to do at cost of the part as a good faith gesture. I did appreciate that, although I ultimately felt it was still an extra $180 that I really didn’t need to spend to get the car functional for inspection. I planned to get the inspection done with them as well, but understood that I needed to drive the car approximately 50 miles before I would know if the check engine light would come on again. They gave me a temp sticker in the interim. Asked if I needed to make an appointment to get the re-inspection and was told no and to come in whenever as it was already paid for and would only take a minute. Looked at the paperwork and invoice from second trip when I got home and saw that they recorded the odometer read totally incorrectly (it was off from the actual by a very wide margin) and worried that would be an issue when getting the sticker due to the instruction to drive the 50 miles before coming back. The following week I came back first thing in the morning and was told that I needed to make an appointment for the re-inspection. Despite being told that I wouldn’t need an appointment, I was okay with that and made one for the afternoon the same day. Brought the car back later at the appointment time and waited a half hour for it to be brought in. I will not be unfair and say it was an unacceptable experience, as staff was kind and front desk did what they could to try to mitigate issues where it was within their power. When all was said and done I had to go roundtrip to the garage 4 times and make arrangements to be without a car for multiple days. While I ultimately got the sticker after my inspection appointment, I feel the communication could be improved.

Approved Auto has been my 'go to' mechanic since I moved to the area 10 years ago. They offer very fair pricing, fast turnaround times, a friendly staff and they do excellent work. They will go the extra mile for their customers and they are honest. I recently learned they even do auto body/collision repair. I strongly recommend them for all of your auto repair needs!

Happy to have found these guys since moving to Plaistow. Quotes are typically more affordable than other local options. Will continue to use them moving forward at this point. Honest mechanics who always provide a “state of the union” of your vehicle without the pressure to get the work done right then. I’ve have oil changes and break/rotor services performed here.
