I was in the Portsmouth NH recently and had to stop by this store for a few things. I met a man named VJ who was very helpful and kind to me. I was having a hard day and he cheered me up and showed me everything I needed. People like him will go far in life. Pep boys needs to recognize this man and commend him.

Pricing is outrageous here! I had the work done elsewhere for half the price!I was contacted by Pep Boys soon after I left this review. Big surprise right? Anyway they informed me that there would be an investigation and would contact me once completed. I requested a full refund. I have never heard back from them?.

This place charges $280 in Labor for an hour just to replace a Tensioner and a Belt. All their competitors charge at Max, 1/2 that. Also, a Belt and a Tensioner here costs $280 bucks. They took advantage of a girl who doesn't know much about cars. This company blows. Avoid it. They can handle the small simple stuff, but I guess a belt is too much for them to handle. watch out for "shop fee" where they charge you just to have your car in their shop and use their tools. Why else would I bring it there?

Had an issue with my van not starting and towed it over to Pep Boys. They diagnosed the van and said it was the alternator and that it will cost $2400 to fix it. After asking about the price breakdown, they have marked up the alternator part by $500. This is just scam. I towed the van out of Pep Boys to the closest dodge dealer ship and they have replaced the alternator for $1780. This place is a scam and up charge customers. Also, they said it will take almost a full week to get the alternator replaced. Dodge dealer ship got us back on the road within 1 day.

Went in for a serpentine belt and was told all my pulleys were seized and quoted 4400$. Took my truck for a second opinion at local garage and they replaced the belt and it was fixed for 170$! This is highway robbery! Pep Boys is not what it used to be! I can’t help but feel deceived!! Thankfully I took the time to get a second opinion! I can’t help but feel terribly that they most likely try to scam others the same way! Buyer Beware - to be specific this happened at the Portsmouth , NH location!

So they did a great job getting me my tires and keeping customer satisfaction high worth several mixups and issues but had to ultimatum go back 3 times to get everything taken care of, so 4 starts instead of 5.

I was in the Portsmouth area before New Years. Felt like one of my tires threw a weight because I started getting a vibration at 65 mph. Pep Boys was the only place that could get me in that week so I made an appt and went in. The mechanicc took me out to the truck and "showed me" all the dry rot on the treads, (I didn't see any dry rot, he said it was at the base of the tread), a worn area on one tire (I was aware of that, had an alignment done to resolve that issue) and said that he would be wasting time trying to balance the tires as it was dangerous to drive in that condition and I needed 4 new tires. I told him no and he spent 5 minutes trying to convince me that I was taking a big chance driving that way. I drove the 300 miles home, took it to my mechanic who said there wasn't a thing wrong with the tires. I won't ever visit another Pep Boys again

Really hate leaving bad reviews - but had some wheels delivered here from TireRack for my car and Pep Boys popped them on. I believe they did not torque one of my tires correctly and caused some huge safety concerns in my opinion. I could not recommend anyone going to this shop after my experience.Driving away from the shop, I heard more road noise than usual, but figured it was just the new tires. Drove from Portsmouth to Manchester (46 miles) and had tons of road noise and vibrations in the car, causing me to hop off the highway.Checking the vehicle, that wheel had lug nuts that were so loose I could spin them with my fingers. Dave at the Pep Boys in Manchester was great - but I was told that I was at fault because I didn't get my tired re-torqued within 25 miles. It was explained to me that new wheels need to mate with the car and re-torquing is important to prevent and safety concerns like what I experienced. I was also informed that anytime you remove your wheel, you need to re-torque it again within 25 miles, for literally any type of service.Pep Boy's absolutely has this written in their fine print, and I was told that I was explicitly instructed to follow this when I picked up my car after it was completed.I spoke with the shope before writing this just to make sure there wasn't anything else to be said. They still believe they torqued the wheel correctly and that something about the wheel or the lug nuts or some other unknown factor was the cause of the loose wheel. The same lug nuts are on my car now and the wheel was re-torqued after the last time they came off and they had not loosed at all. I just don't see how that could be the case and strongly feel that something in their process was missed.
