Terrible experience. Saw the reviews and actually drove 10 minutes past another store based on the google reviews and a desire to spend money at a family owned business. First it’s basically a “bodega” not really a “market”. That said, had an ok selection. As previous reviewer stated, some of the fruit was spoiled. I brought a particularly rotted plum to the register to be discarded, I can completely understand how it was missed but didn’t want it to ruin the additional fruit. Cashier was very rude. She was barely able to hand us bags for our purchases. Was quite brusque with other customers, I won’t be back.

Very niche experience but I dropped my wallet and the guy working brought it out to me on the street, just the nicest thing in the world, potentially saved me a huge headache. He was also just very nice when we were in the store as well, and the store has a great selection of everything you might need at a quick stop. This place is a credit to Portsmouth

🏆 Local, Fresh and Friendly Market! I have been shopping at Richardson's since Beth & Greg Danilowski reopened the store in Jan 2022. Based on a dream and nominal budget, the owners have sculpted an amazing local market with fresh produce, staple goods, welcoming atmosphere, diverse craft beer and wine, and so much more. They face an uphill battle against chain-markets and big box stores, but in my opinion, they have succeeded. The owners take pride in their market for historical downtown Portsmouth, and it shows. I would easily recommend Richardson's to any travelers and locals. The owners are always open to constructive feedback and suggestions for what to stock on their shelves to empower everyone who visits. Well done 👏

They always have a variety of gluten free options, both on the shelves and for fresh/prepared foods (like those GF cupcakes 😍). Greg and Beth are great and have always been open to suggestions for new products to bring in. Their staff are also excellent, especially that one with the funky hair who plays weird music on the evening shifts :)

Great local market with very kind staff. Prices are very reasonable and their goods selection is surprising in the best way! Keep doing what you do. One of my favorite spots in Portsmouth.

10/10 I was going to go to Whole Foods but I was super tired so I popped in and they had so many things. Lots of organic and well sourced food and your typical convenience store items and travel sized things too. They even had spindrift! Super impressed. I got just what I needed for my last day in town.

I am writing this review at 6 am inside the store waiting to buy some cigarettes and one of the workers let me sit inside to stay warm before they open.
This store has always been the best from the selection of food, to the cheap milk, to the Arnotts Tim Tams that you can really only find here. There are amazing sandwiches too as they are right next to an delicious sandwich shop and have fresh subs in the cold case.
If you are ever in portsmouth try and stop by Richardsons, the staff are friendly, and this place is like a second home to me and many others.

Cute family owned store with great selection of groceries and household necessities. It is conveniently located downtown, so you don't have to get in the car. Friendly and helpful staff who answer the phone!

Fantastic shop - great selection of really high end food, excellent beer and wine, cool niche items (sake!) and very clean and friendly. They’ll order stuff and stock it if you ask, too. 10 stars.

Sells rotten produce that he gets from the local food pantry. Buy produce from here and see for yourself . Cheese and bread with green mold , green mold on strawberries too
