Be very careful, they will open a membership. Take every document like w2, paystubs, DL and then they will flag your account as fraud and will shut it down. worst institute....

I have an account with them for years now they won't take my payroll checks as a deposit and won't fix the problem.. I think this I'd how they push out low volume accounts and make room for corporate. They are no longer vet friendly like they claim

Without question, the worst banking experience my partner and I have ever experienced in the last 30 years. I referred her to this credit union and could not regret it more. Hard to properly articulate how unprofessional these people are. But I'm happy to edit this review and go into detail if they want to reply and deny their absurdly improper behavior. I can just copy/paste our formal complaint to the National Credit Union Administration if they'd like. We have truly never experienced anything like this. Stay far, far away if you are looking for anything in the same universe of effective communication and respectful treatment. Truly sickening experience here.

this "bank" relies on military customers who are forced into using it because they are deployed overseas. Avoid this credit union if you expect to be valued as an individual, and if you want a bank that understands that you may actually need to access the funds that you have under their care.

Today I needed to exchange currency for my up and coming trip to Ireland. I had to open an account to get my Euro's. It was quick and painless and the people and credit union were super nice! Lisa, in Portsmouth, on Lafayette RD was my teller and helped me open my account. I am very pleased with her customer service. Look forward to banking more with you in the future.

Very poor account management, communication and follow through. I have closed my ONE car loan account in person, over the phone and by e-mail and they still are unable to close my account. Now they are going to charge me a $10 per month service fee for an inactive account! I tried to call their service support and the technician was unable to find my account, give me a phone number or speak well enough so that I could. understand him. All this after I waited for 30 minutes to speak with someone. Very poor company. DO NOT business with this credit union.

I made the mistake of taking an auto loan with these clowns several years ago. I have since paid off said auto loan, but now they're sending me emails threatening to charge me $10 a month for being "inactive." I have tried to access online, no luck. I have reached out to them by phone and their call wait list is over 60 people deep. Each local branch de-lists their number and points you to one corporate line. They're THE WORST. Even AFTER you pay off a loan. They're like a wart that never goes away. STAY AWAY from this CU. Find somewhere smaller to bank with.

It was easy to sign up and get a car loan. But, when I set up my online banking with my new member number I still could not login after a few days. I called and I got a woman on the phone with a very bad attitude. I told her what was going on and she basically said I didn't know what I was doing and I did it wrong. Sorry but I have been using online banking for around 20 years and she is trying to tell me I probably did it wrong. So I set up the account again and I still can't get in. I guess we will see what happens when it comes time to make that loan payment and I can't get into my account.

Stay away from this bank! I was recommended to use this bank by a colleague at work that Service Credit Union really took good care of their customers. They couldn't be more wrong. At first everything was normal, I applied for membership and a credit card online and having a perfect 850 was approved. After I got the card, I wanted to apply for a small loan as well, as me and my wife are planning on fixing up the house this summer. So, after being approved for the loan, I was asked for some payroll documents and someone from the bank called me. Now just so you know I have a very thick accent as my family, and I are from India. While on the phone the lady was very rude and treated me like I was some kind of criminal telling me my documents weren't real. I offered to send them my bank statements showing the deposits in my account as real, but she refused. Until they heard me on the phone, everything was going smoothly, but it's amazing as soon I get on the phone, I am no longer good enough for this bank. Even though I have an MBA and I am the controller for a multimillion-dollar business with a six-figure income, suddenly, they shut my entire account down! I was highly embarrassed to say the least and really thought that I would never be treated like this in America, sadly I was wrong. I am very disappointed and beyond embarrassed how this bank has treated me. Now, I don't have any access to my accounts and my hard-earned money is stuck. I have no means to access them nor can pay the card.

I am soon moving from the credit union, their check hold policy is absurd, and if that not enough today, I tried to withdraw $7000.00 from my account, first I was told I need a weeks notice to do that, then when I insisted, I had to find a branch that could do that much, ya only $7000.00 I did finally get it, but was asked why I needed my money for. only 7000 no one needs to know, it's like I put it there but it's not mine. this started with a phone call I was on hold for 17 minutes. I have been with them 15 years, but make no mistake it is my money.

On January 21, 2023. I applied online for a savings account with Service CU.On January 23, 2023. I received an email requesting documents to help verify my identity. I recently legally changed my name. This may not be reflecting on my consumer reports, so I also included a copy of the court order changing my name. I sent them a copy of my social security card with my new name and a copy of an insurance policy. On January 27, 2023. I received an voicemail requesting that I call to follow up.I tried several times to call them, and on February 2, 2023, I was able to speak to a representative. I verified several questions, although I did have to pause to look up the credit limit of one of my credit cards. I have a general idea of my credit limits, but I do not know all of them exactly off the top of my head. This is something that most people would not have knowledge off the top of their head. The representative stated I would receive an email in a few moments. This email never arrived. On February 3, 2023, a ACH debit of $500 was made from the account that I designated for the opening deposit. On February 15, 2023, I received an adverse action notice February 4, 2023, stating that they were unable to verify my identity. On February 15, 2023, I reached out to Service CU via telephone and requested assistance setting up an online login. The representative directed me to send an email, which I did and I received a reply on February 17, 2023 requesting additional information. I have not yet replied to this email. On February 22, 2023, I received an ACH credit of $500 to the account that I designated for the opening deposit. I can appreciate that they were unable to verify my identity, even though I provided extensive documentation and was able to properly answer questions regarding my credit report. It is inappropriate then when they declined my application, they still debited my account, did not clearly state that I didn't have an account on February 15, and additionally they did not return my funds for 19 calendar days.In any case, their customer service was extremely lacking and I'd recommend not doing business with them.

Got rid of my checkings account with this terrible bank because when they “upgraded” their systems it deleted my accounts completely. NOW I only have a car loan with them and their app never works to pay externally or even get access. Their website on a laptop or phone doesn’t work or log me in giving me error codes everytime it comes time to pay my truck. I’ll be reporting this all to BBB, but be warned DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! Their app and website has been programmed by middle school kids with all these flaws. I talked to an entire branch of employees when they first “upgraded”, they were never properly trained on anything when it was introduced. SCU SUCKS!

I moved all of my accounts to the SCU a few years ago. Mostly for the service and accessibility to my accounts that other banks didn't provide ( Sunday banking, later hours of operation) All that has gone away. I just received a new ATM card and went to activate it. I spent an hour on hold waiting for the system to work, after that hour I got a message that the system was down. I called to speak with a rep and was told 87 people were ahead of me. This was over two days. What the heck. What is going on with SCU?

When SCU was smaller, they weren't that bad. I had a decent rate mortgage with them, and I was even able to lower my rate for free once, and a second time for $300. As I started to grow my savings, their Money Market rates were competitive with online banks. Not anymore! As the Fed Rate rises, and most banks raise their interest rates over 2%, SCU has barely budged to 0.7% for savings over $10k. But their mortgage loans are now over 7%! Big, big profit for them. Good thing I don't need a mortgage anymore. Their greed is all very sad for me because I'm military and live close to their headquarters in Portsmouth. They were kind of my hometown bank and I used to recommend SCU to everyone! It all went downhill when they surpassed a value of 1 billion in assets(now 4 billion.) They might as well change their name to Bank of America, since they are looking more and more like them every day, or, since that name is taken, how about Service Ourselves Credit Union. SOCU
