Auto loans: They have a nice rate posted but make you go through hoops to get the best rate that they list. For example, you must have 'direct deposit of $500 or more to get the best car loan rate (if you are not a veteran). By the time it took me to try and set this up, I had already gotten a very close rate by another bank (that had zero hoops) and chose to go with them. This is the second time this has happened. I intend to close my business with them. Too bad, this is the only way I am able to give them feedback but hopefully someone over there reads this and changes this policy.

This Place is great. Very good I got a rate that was really low, way lower than my Regular Bank. And if you open a savings account I think they give you a even Better rate for a Loan. I don't know what the loan is, but I know they gave me the best rate I've ever gotten for a Loan. I think it may have been around 4 or 5 Percent. Very Friendly and Caring Employees here. And it's a Great location too. Inside Walmart

Update 4/12/22 Much better now, they have updated their website and computer system and now seem to have everything under control now. Communications are much better and contacting them is a little easier as well. Very happy that they are back to normal and happy to be a customer again. I've been a customer since 1982 and was always very happy with them but now, especially this past year or two, they've become the absolute worst. I deal with two credit unions and a bank and no one has deteriorated like that of Service Credit Union. Their customer service is terrible and the call center they have now just plain sucks. I can't understand how they've gotten so bad and don't seem to care one bit.

Absolute failure of a financial institution. They have changed our account number unbeknownst to us, horrible customer service, charged us 4K for not having insurance after providing it 6 times - one was from our insurance company, among other things. Do not open an account here. Zero credibility, zero accountability, and zero reason to keep them in business.

I have been a member of Service Credit Union since 1996 when I was stationed in Mannheim Germany. I had only two options for a bank while stationed there. I had great experience with Credit unions before and knew that most Credit unions were a close knit family for say. I had opened several loans with them to get established while I was there. Jump forward a couple years and I wanted to consolidate my loans because I was paying over $700 in loans and wanted to lower my payments per month. Service Credit Union was able to consolidate my loans but penalized me by suspending my overdraft protection on my account and when something gets pulled early they charge you $30 every single time. I tried several times to get the overdraft protection reinstated but they tell me that they will not do it. I have been thinking about switching banks, but I have several direct deposits going into this account and I know that it's going to be difficult to change everything to a new bank.

They keep refusing to replace my faded card without charging me. The Newington branch has offered to replace for free. It's all about taking care of your loyal customers not trying to make every single penny out of them.

Consistently short staffed, both in bank and phone support. Frustrating online banking. Hours spent trying to get a ? answered, just waiting on the phone - sometimes they did not return calls. Looks like they have enough assets to properly staff their banks and on line support, if they chose to do so. The employees must feel the burden of being understaffed. Seems they are not doing well by members/costumers nor their employees. What is corporate doing with the money if not using it to properly run their business? Bottom line, if you need dependable banking, especially mobile banking, I would look elsewhere. I have been a member for 25 years, Always had great service and the best rates on loans and no fee accounts. As of 2018 they have raised some of the account costs yet they still remain one of the best deals for consumer financial services.

A little over a year ago I began a new career in real estate. Anyone half way familiar with the real estate industry knows how challenging the first year is. My first year was no exception. I had some moderate issues with my loan payment thru this company whom at first & from the first individual I communicated with were understanding & flexible. After falling behind 2-3 months, however all along staying in communication with them, my loan was moved into "special accounts", this, I am here to inform you is the dept. where your loan is placed to be un-professionally, un-ethically & flat out disrespectfully spoken to, most specifically by one un-educated, offensive, classless individual w/ no ambition by the name of Lynn Cook whom is undoubtedly unhappy with herself, her dead end job, home life, & everything else she comes in contact with. Ms. Cooks inability to use proper english grammar & even fewer manners & total lack of professional courtesy & virtually NO client svc. skills whatsoever truly exemplifies the dumbing down of corporate America's less than average linear 9-5 payroll employee unhappy with life reporting to her routine daily sole mission of bullying & harassing others through engaging in unethical, disrespectful & completely unprofessional business practices. There's a special place in society for these individuals & Service Credit Union has done a fine job of finding it within their own institution. And even a few short months after communicating with their VP etc. firmly requesting NO FURTHER CONTACT from this predatorial woman AFTER bring my loan account current, she returns back in my life & in my inbox. So, if you find yourself having the great misfortune of becoming victimized by Ms. Lynn Cook, try & get out some way some how asap or find a way pay to pay off your account & get out of this institution & NEVER RETURN!! TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!

I've been a member of Service Credit Union for about 2 1/2 years and do the majority of my "in-person" banking at the Walmart branch on Lafayette Road. All of my experiences have been positive. The employees are pleasant and professional. My only critique is that sometimes the wait for an available teller can be a bit long.
