Ten Thousand Villages recently moved around the corner from its previous location. Their space is not as congested as it used to be, which allows the customer to really focus on each display. I like their jewelry, bags, tableware, basketry, wooden crafts, textiles, and lots of odds and ends, like windchimes, cloth flowers, and wall art.

Sells Anti-Israel merchandising including judaica under labels "made in West Bank" which is code for Palestinian terrorism funding support of Hamas and antisemitic BDS movement which calls for boycotting Israeli made merchandise and commerce in the USA. Shame on you for funding terrorist ideologies.

My dad and I were visiting Portsmouth from New Jersey. As soon as I walked in, Claire, the manager began to greet me and we had a wonderful conversation. As soon as she found out we were visiting, she gave us the most beautiful places to go and see! She gave us a list and we hit every spot. She definitely is a wonderful person to have at that store, and the company should keep her. She had much history on the products in the store, which I thought was a very interesting background. Definitely recommend visiting this store!

Lots of interesting items to look at in all kinds of mediums -- pottery, textile, wood, glass, paper. They already have their holiday items on display, including several Christmas ornaments and nativity sets.

On a dismal, drizzly day in Portsmouth, I kept my activities indoors in the shops. Coming onto Congress Street from the Vaughan Mall, a pottery item in the side window of Ten Thousand Villages caught my eye. I went in to see what else the shop had. Inside, I found hundreds of one-of-a-kind handmade items from all around the globe. There were many types of things for the home as well as jewelry and gifts for many occasions. I found the fair trade baskets interesting. They were colorful and well made. Some were for holding hot casserole baking dishes; others were for stashing clutter or just decorative. Some had lids. A casserole holder was $18.99. An oblong bread basket was also $18.99. I particularly liked the round ones with dome lids. One was $37.49. Larger ones were $79.99. There were a lot of décor items that included picture frames, candle holders, sculptures, trinket boxes, shelf-sitters, and more. One item I admired was in the textiles category. It was called the Quiet River Throw. It was from Peru and made from alpaca wool. It was $225.00. It was the most expensive item I saw in the store. There was also a shawl at half that price. Oher items for the home included serving dishes and bowls and tabletop items, such as mugs and glassware, coasters and hot pads. A number of different categories of items for the house had a cat motif. I also liked the jewelry --- most of which was earrings and necklaces. Prices I saw ranged from $14.99 to $39.99. There were a few bracelets and rings. A metal cuff bracelet made of silver and brass was $79.99. This was a very nice shop. It got a few extra points from me for being fair trade and environmentally responsible. I rate Ten Thousand Villages at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit. This shop is part of a small nationwide chain that features hand crafted items from around the world, and sales benefit these artisans. They carry jewelry, food items, linens, musical instruments, and many other beautiful things that make great gifts, or just to treat yourself to something special. My husband and I have visited this store on our annual trips to Portsmouth, and we always find a few things that we can't resist.
