I've done several classes at Yoga By Donation with Evalyn who is wonderful as a teacher of yoga and spiritual practices. I appreciate that their pay what you can afford philosophy makes classes accessible to all.

Great space, GREAT people, many styles available...right downtown, so parking can be tricky, but definitely top notch trainers.

I am not a yogi by any stretch of the imagination (no pun intended), but decided to attend a class here while in the area for a weekend getaway vacation. Being an avid hiker, I decided to attend Evalyn's 5PM "Yoga for Runners and Hikers" class and had a great experience from start to finish. Unlike previous yoga studios I have visited, Yoga by Donation had a laid back vibe and the class I attended was very down-to-earth. No pretentious airs or assumptions of prior expertise here, which was a huge relief. As the name implies, payment is strictly by donation, and patrons are free to contribute whatever they deem reasonable to attend the classes here. I really respect the principle behind their operation. Yoga classes (and health facilities in general) are often expensive and it's not always affordable for folks on limited budgets. I think it's great that they operate by donation as it allows a lot of people to regularly attend the classes who wouldn't have been able to do so otherwise. The class itself was very soothing and relaxing and Evalyn was a truly wonderful instructor. Even though I am a yoga novice, I was able to follow along to her posture instructions and by the end of the class, my muscles and back felt much more relaxed than usual. She patiently helped me work through some of the more involved postures, and was not the least bit condescending (as has been my experience with instructors at other yoga studios). I also thought the class made excellent use of props (back cushion, chair, foam block, etc.), which ensured safe execution of some of the more difficult postures and made for a seamless class experience overall. All totaled, Yoga by Donation is a highly admirable and community-minded organization, the like of which is unfortunately not too common these days. For the class I attended, it looked like everyone paid their fair share of dues, but you can tell they struggle a bit more to make ends meet compared to a "higher end" yoga studio which charges a hefty membership premium. They are in the process of raising funds to establish non-profit status, which will allow them to accept donations from larger benefactors and corporations. I would encourage any patrons who frequent this studio to donate to this worthy cause on their website (yogabydonation.org/contr...). I will definitely be returning the next time I am in Portsmouth! While I do not practice yoga regularly, the great experience I had here has inspired me to seek out classes at a similar studio near where I live. Thanks Evalyn and Yoga by Donation for the wonderful class!

I look forward to my regular Friday night class with Evalyn all week. Her classes are always different and include unique postures, movement, and breath work. I always leave feeling refreshed in body and mind. I also look forward to seeing the other Friday night regulars - Yoga by Donation has a great community of students who are welcoming and truly care about one another. My involvement at Yoga By Donation over the past four years - through classes and workshops at the studio and through the personal connections I have made there - has been truly transformative.

It's a great feeling to just move. This space is perfect no matter where in your yoga journey you may be. I love to bring friends to share in the fluid movement. I have attended many different styles here and each teacher really cares.

I absolutely love the studio and Evalyn. She is wonderful! I am truly grateful for discovering the studio and the beautiful programs they offer. I took Reiki I and II with Evalyn. I hope to visit the studio again super soon to try a yoga/meditation class. Yoga by Donation is a hidden gem in the heart of Portsmouth which I'm very happy I discovered.
