This is a tough one to review, I’ve had good luck with my 13 yr old dog in Banfields care. However, we were pressured for two years to have a dental done on our eight-year-old orange cat. The more we were nagged the worst they made us feel about declining making us feel like we were being neglectful. So, we finally gave in last month (Feb 2024). Our cat got his dental and upon coming home we noticed something had gone horribly, he was literally blowing up right before our eyes. When we touched him there was a crinkling feeling as if we were running our hand over a baby fabric crinkle toy. We contacted Banfield and rushed him back thinking that maybe he had an allergic reaction to anesthesia. We found out that that was not the case at all! We were informed that they “may have” punctured a hole in his trachea while intubating him for his dental cleaning. This caused his body to fill with air. The doctor looked panicked as he was listening to my cat and telling us that we had to bring him to an emergency vet, he called the ER Vet to tell them we were on our way. My cat was in the emergency vet ICU on and off for a week. He spent time the whole in an oxygen chamber to help him breathe and reabsorb the escaped air. They removed 1.2 liters of air using needles, and when they thought things were looking OK, after a few days, they sent him home to try to reduce the stress on him. Later that day after bring him home and the following day, we had noticed that something was still really, really wrong. His body felt enlarged again and felt very crinkly as if we were popping air pockets under his skin. He was not acting right at all, so we brought him back to the ER , they told us to lay off the pain meds for him as he was sensitive to them in the hospital and see how he feels. Two days later he was rushed back into the ER with slime pouring out of his mouth and he was having difficulty breathing, the crinkling got worse he blew up again and looked like he contained a lot more air under his skin. This time the ER Doctor did a scope to find that he had a 1 INCH TEAR in his trachea that needed urgent surgical repair. They said, although situations like this are rare and it’s caused by negligence from the vet, they said, in the rare cases that they have seen, they have only seen 1 to 2 MM tears in my cat had ONE INCH, we were told that he was the worst they had seen. One of the ICU doctors told us that if he wasn’t brought in within 24 hours, he would’ve been gone, we could have lost our cat all because of a dental cleaning we never wanted. Although Banfield covered the cost between $25,000 and $30,000 - they have yet to make any contact to us to see how our cat is doing, it has been 10 days since he was discharged from the emergency vet and we haven’t heard a word from Banfield. I’m thankful that they took financial responsibility but the pain and suffering of my poor cat and family has been tough. It upsets me that they know how urgent this situation was and just haven’t checked in to see how things are going. Don’t ever let anyone pressure you into doing a procedure that you’re not comfortable with. It does seem Banfield pushes dentals on a lot of patients as we have heard them speaking with owners at discharge and making them sound very urgent, but in the end all they said was my cat had a little bit of tartar, and otherwise had no issues whereas earlier in the year, they said that if we didn’t get a dental done, we could be looking at extractions, and that was not the case at all.We tried to cancel both my cats wellness plans as we don’t feel safe sending my injured cat back or my very expensive 8 month old Ragdoll and they said we had to pay off the plan to cancel. Our dog had never experienced anything horrible so we may keep her there out of convenience but I will request in office visits and no drop offs, i want to know my pet is safe before leaving. My cat has a long road ahead, he was shaved a lot due to surgery, he has a large scar down his throat and can no longer purr, which he was a big time purr machine before.

Not easy to get appointments. Always trying to upsell. Gave me a run around for days trying to get my dogs meds refilled. After 4 days we went to another vet. Now giving me grief over canceling contract even though we moved and there isn't a Banfield in my area... avoid them.

Great staff! They are super respensive and helpful. My kitten has been sick for months now and they are SO committed to getting her feeling better. Dr. Jimerson has done SO much between speaking to colleagues in other offices and referring us to specialist. I feel that my kitten is very well cared for.

Cheap place, already paid for an e-collar cone and I asked for another cone since the first one was damaged. and Banfield asked me to pay for another one. Not like I spend hundreds of dollars at banfield. Stay away from this place. In 2013 there have been consumer law suits with Banfield in California and nationwide. This class action seeks to remedy: (a) Banfield's deceptive marketing of savings and discounts under the plan, and (b) Banfield's deceptive and coercive upselling of additional pet care products and services.

This place never picks up the phone… which you think a vet would. Instead, I’ve had to take my dog to the emergency vet and pay out of pocket for services that are INCLUDED in my monthly payment plan. It’s a waste to pay nearly 200 dollars a month for a vet service that is basically non-existent

Horrible at picking up the phone or calling back. When in need they are never there for you to count on them.

I do not understand why this hospital has only 3 stars on here because I have had nothing, but spectacular visits. The staff is all very helpful, friendly, and welcoming. I brought my brand new furry friend (a 7 week old kitten) in to get his very first check up and the staff was so very loving, caring, and attentive towards him. They are also very knowledgeable. I HIGHLY recommend this Banfield location if you are looking for high quality and affordable pet care!

UPDATE: my brother ended up having to put his 1 year old dog down after, this clinic performed stomach obstruction surgery on him. The vet said they were only going to creat two incisions in order to remove the obstruction. When he was transferred to an ACTUAL veterinary hospital the vet told my brother that they had cut into him at least 7 times, in the vets words “they butchered him.” The poor pup developed an infection that quickly spreads to the blood stream. MIND YOU bane-field vets said nothing about the additional incisions, not till my brother called the next day to let them know what they’d caused. They offered a free cremation when threatened with legal action. DISGUSTING AND FOUL TREATMENT OF BOTH PETS AND OWNERS.Took my dog here in her early years, she never had an issue, having her temperature taken or with fear of vets. After the pandemic they started to offer drop off only, which was unsettling to me as an owner. I switched vets and noticed she was very fearful and even became aggressive when my new vet went to take her temperature, or would refuse to leave my side when it came time for her vaccinations. Not to mention most recently my brother took his dog here for surgery, they were supposed to cut him internally once, but ended up doing so 7 times and then transferred him to a real animal hospital for overnight observation, where the vets let my brother know that they butchered his dog. Thankfully the dog just woke up, but is in seriously critical condition. Makes me think this is where people who barely passed veterinary school come to work. Save your animal the stress and DO NOT COME HERE. HORRIBLE QUALITY OF CARE AND THE VETS CLEARLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

Made an appt at the Banfield in side the Pet Smart in Salem via phone and when I arrived they had no record of my appt. They told me I should have gone to the other Banfield in SalemIn Tuscan Village. So I rushed there and when I arrived they sent me back to the one in Pet Smart. Then they told me they needed proof of a rabies vaccine ( which was never conveyed to me) and offered a rabies vaccine so my dog could be seen. I didn’t want to re-vaccinate because I know she was already vaccinated not that long ago.At this point I decided to leave because I felt Banfield could not be trusted with the care of my dog.Just a complete waste of my time. Stay away, they are an administrative nightmare.

Banfield is nothing more than a vaccination clinic. Horrible, lazy vets. My dog died 11 hours after his last visit. The vet said he was "too stressed" to be examined and sent us home. He was actually dying from a ruptured tumor in his chest cavity which we didn't know until after his death and having a necropsy preformed. Had he had a chest x-ray, he may have been saved with emergency surgery. If you care about your pets, DON'T take them to Banfield
