Is the Barnes and Noble store in Salem, NH one of the worst in the country? I hope so because I can hardly imagine one that is worse. Airport newsstands have a better selection of books and magazines than this outlet. Anyone who is looking for anything serious in the way of history, biography, etc. is better served ordering items online. Additionally, the store is falling into disrepair; I can't count how often the escalators are out of service and for long periods of time. If there remained any competition in the book selling industry, this place would be long out of business. Where is Borders, Waldenbooks and so many others when we need them? To top it all off, the next nearest branch in Portsmouth, NH is not much better.

Escalator has been out of order for over a year. The elevator is broken now also. The management in this store is horrendous the entire fiction section is on the second floor along with the kid section mystery and everything else worth reading. Pretty much the majority of the books are on the second floor and there's no way to get to them. Cafe is better than the Nashua location

Always friendly and helpful. But, it's a popular place, so you may have to wait in line!

It's always fun to browse the shelves and find new stories to read. I read mostly manga now which can be hard to find in other bookstores. Their non-book related stuff is great too (I found some great vinyl here!)

Nice store clean but the staff was very unorganized. They were all behind the counter ringing people out and Noone on the sales floor helping customers. I asked for help at customer service counter and she tried her best to help me but I had to ask someone else for help. That person took me to the exact location to where the book was and actually helped me find it. The staff seemed very stressed and there seem to be no guidance for the employees. This was my first time in this store.

Once again, another Salem NH shop that needs more staff. Young woman at coffee register was lovely, but she was alone and the tables were all a mess.

They literally have everything! Book, of course, but their gift selection has something for everyone. Children's games, adult puzzles, plush animals. Starbucks, journals, greeting cards, every genre of book you can imagine. Go visit this store it's a hidden gem.

Recently I bought and had the pleasure of reading " A Swim Back Home " by Denise Sawyer a local writer ! I thoroughly enjoyed this novel as she takes you on a swim back to her childhood in Colonia, NJ. (1966) Denise creatively re lives a situation she wish she could change and through the excitement and adventure returns you back to NH and 2023 ! She creates events from her childhood in the 60's that really hit home with the reader and leaves you wishing how fantastic it would be to go back to our own childhood to relive our own adventures! *****

I went there and then walked around looking at books seeing if they talk. Nope except one. I ran out of that place and never came back

Clean, staff was helpful. Seemed a bit expensive. The variety of selections seemed very limited in some areas.
