I have an ancient Hurco knee mill picked up at an auction at scrap iron prices. 0.0015" or so runout out in the taper. Taper grind and new bearings didn't make it much better. Northland did the taper grind, but I did the spindle rebuild. Northland had me return the spindle with bearings. They figured out the duplex bearing stack had other problems. Wasn't cheap, but Northland fixed these other problems. Runout is about 2.5 microns now.

This is what I wrote to them concerning my spindle repair:Good Morning Sandy,We are actually making chips today for the first time, so far we are incredibly pleased with it.I ran a brand new precision runout gauge on it Sunday and was thrilled with the results, at the spindle face she showed absolutely no runout on a tenth indicator, pulled the head up 11" and she was only running out a total of about 1-1/2 tenths at 11 inches, which was far, far better than I ever could have hoped for.I was also ecstatic when in that 11" stroke of the Z axis the Y face of the gauge never moved a tenth, and moving the indicator to the X side of the spindle she was out of square with the Z column only 2 tenths in that stroke, so she is in what I can only call perfect alignment with the machine.I am more than happy with the job you have done for me, and I am telling everyone in my circle how pleased I am. Again, thank you so much for the great job and please tell the workers who did it that for me also.Paul

We needed a high speed spindle repaired for one of our grinders. From the start of getting a price estimate all the way through getting a completely refurbished spindle, the support we rec'd from Shannon at Northland Tool was superb and professional. Not only did we get our machine back online is a relatively short time. The refurbished part performs flawlessly as if new. I highly recommend Northland Tool as a resource and Shannon as a CSR for your needs.

I rarely write reviews but when a company makes a continued very positive lasting impression on me it makes me want to make note of it. Northland Tool has been excellent to work with on every single occasion I have had. I have had them rebuild multiple spindles for various makes and model milling machines over the years for me. Every time I called them and needed them it was an expedited request with no notice. They were able to accommodate each time and rebuild my spindles very quickly and at a great value and avoiding costly downtime. Referencing my most recent rebuild need. We went line down suddenly in a crunch time and I was ready to buy a brand new spindle that showed in stock in a warehouse. This was In an effort to get back running as fast as possible i thought? Before I ordered new I called Northland Tool again to see if they could possibly help my immediate need and again they were able to rebuild my spindle perfectly and faster than i could get a new one shipped directly to me and at a lower price on top of that!!!The people I have dealt with each time were different each time but I was treated the same by all, very friendly, and very responsive and professional. They responded to my isolated small business needs just as equal as if I was a large corporation with many machines. I would also like to note that the spindles they have rebuilt for me have run for years and are still going strong.I speak from not just one, but multiple great experiences I have had with there service, value and quality of work. I wish many more companies could conduct business this way.

Excellent service every time!Turn around time was fast, the cost quite reasonable and the spindle on my Shigiya OD grinder is now running the best I've ever seen. Smooth, quiet, running cool and surface finish is amazing.

Do not Trust.....The reason the last customer didn't send it back to Northland tool again for a 4th time is because they could tell them the thing turned to green cheese and they would never know. I have first hand experience with Northland tool and I can tell you, they are liars. Straight up. I sent my HAAS 50T spindle to them for rebuild with very low hrs. on it. due to a lubrication issue and was just out of warrantee with HAAS. They quoted me $3000.00 over the phone. Once they received it they told me it would be $8,000.00, my Bellville's were all broken and it needed grinding. I knew the Bellville's were fine because we only ran the thing for a couple hrs. per dey for less then a year. When I asked for a picture of the broken Bellvilles, they told me they weren't actually broken, just extremely worn. (All Lies) I was not happy with the price and asked them to see if they could reduce the price. They dropped it to $7,000.00. Still $4,000.00 more then they quoted over the phone. I reluctantly pulled the trigger because I needed the machine back. Received the spindle back, paid the HAAS technician to re-install it. Before the spindle even made it through the initial run in program, it locked up again. basically, it ran for 30 min. Had to pay HAAS technician to remove the spindle again and shipping back to Northland. They tried to say it was the technicians fault and he had the belts too tight. Come on, 30 min?? I don't think so. Anyway, they did agree to fix the spindle. A couple weeks later I received the spindle back again and once again paid to have it installed by HAAS technician. After running it for a day or so I noticed it was reaching temps of over 140F. I immediately emailed them. (This was my warrantee claim if you ask me) They told me that they observed similar temps and that they tried adjusting the preload and were able to get it temps a little better but still running hot. So decided to send it to me and let me put it through it's paces. These are set preload bearing sets. No adjustment ability unless you were to take the entire thing apart and install a shim. (LIE) I found that if I ran the TSC I could keep the temps down to around 90F so I tried to run the TSC as much as possible. Just shy of a year I started hearing noises. Called them immediately, sent them a video, they told me it was cage noise and not to worry about it. A month later is sneezes up. Just out of warrantee. They were super interested in getting the spindle back and told me they would make it right. Had the spindle removed yet again by HAAS technician and sent back to Northland. A week or so later they give me a call telling me the spindle was in need of over $11,000.00 in work but are willing to extend the olive branch and fix it for $7,000.00 again. I of course felt as though they weren't doing anything for me as far as warrantee goes especially because I had talked to them several times before the so called warrantee was up and was told not to worry, things are being documented etc. (THEY KNEW SOMTHING WAS NOT RIGHT WHEN IT WAS RUNNING 140 deg. AND SENT ME THE SPINDLE ANYWAY!) This is the first, most obvious BS part of this whole thing. I offered to split it with them, $3,500.00. Which is still outrageous if you ask me. They told me that was impossible, the spindle was egged undersize, indicative of a crash (No Crash)and they would not do it for less than $7,000.00. I told them to pack it up and ship it back to me. Upon inspection of the SPINDLE, not only did I find THE HOUSING TO BE IN PERFECT CONDITION,(No Egg shape at all) They were very rough with it. It looked like they had used a puller in the O-ring grooves on the outer bearing spacer, marred it all up as well as other damage to other parts such as the encoder ring etc. I WAS ABLE TO CLEAN UP THE DAMAGE THEY HAD DONE AND REBUILD IT MYSELF FOR THE PRICE OF THE BEARINGS. About $1,700.00. The spindle is now back in the machine and running beautifully. I did use steel bearings rather than ceramic, however I could have use ceramic and still

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! These folks have now done 2 spindle repair/rebuilds for us and they did great on both of them. they were expedient, polite, and professional. We had a mishap reinstalling one of the spindles and Northlands staff went above and beyond to help us get it fixed as quickly as possible even though the mistake was on our end. Best spindle house I've had the pleasure of working with. 10/10 highly recommend

Do NOT let Northland Tool & Electronics attempt any repair to your spindle! We sent our Roku-Roku spindle to them for repair as our spindle was wore out. They returned it with a seal leaking and it wouldn't run past 200 RPM. 2nd attempt; it had a sever vibration and lasted maybe a month at a greatly reduced RPM. They could not explain the vibration, or why their bearings failed!

I have been using Northland Tool (NTE) for years through a couple different companies I've been with. They have always provided timely and effective service of my spindles. I had a particularly challenging one with a Schneider Generator that we worked very closely to resolve and even though ultimately we found the issue was not having a dedicated pulley and spindle nut married to the high speed spindle, NTE assisted onsite and covered the rebuild under warranty. Their expedite service has got me out of many jams. NTE is knowledgeable, fully capable, home grown, and attentive to the needs of their customers. As a Facilities/ Maintenance Manager they remain one of the best tools in my tool kit!
