Dollar General in Atlantic City offers everyday essentials at affordable prices. It provides everyday low prices on frequently-needed items including food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, basic apparel, housewares, seasonal items, and paper products. This location sells tobacco. For many locals, it serves as a crucial supermarket in what is described as a vast food desert, with customers shopping there multiple times a week for staples. Prices are considered very reasonable. The store receives mixed reviews regarding its condition and operations. Some customers find it very clean and well organized, with helpful staff. However, others frequently find it poorly stocked, with shelves that are frequently empty and aisles that are a congested mess with boxes all over the place. The store suffers from massive losses from theft and employs a loud, camera-monitoring security system. The surrounding area is described as a crime-ridden mess, with incidents of grab-and-runs and homeless people around the store. There is high employee turnover, which customers understand, noting that working there is putting your life on the line. A significant and repeated issue is that the store shuts down unexpectedly, sometimes for days, with signs citing cash register problems or other issues, leaving customers inconvenienced. While some staff are reported as rude or unhelpful, particularly when items are out of stock, many other customers report that employees are consistently respectful and helpful. The store is considered a vital, if challenging, resource for the community.
This store didn't have any Milk at all then I asked when will they have some they didn't know because the cooler was down yet there was so much cold soda in coolers. Staff wouldn't answer my questions and were just rude.
