“Beautiful church by architect Thomas Henry Poole (1860-1919) in English Gothic style, modeled after the cathedral in Durham. It was constructed between 1911 and 1915. The parish was founded in 1889 by German immigrant families and was named after Emperor Henry II of the Holy Roman Empire. Initially German was the language spoken at services.”
“until I left Bayonne in 1960 regularly attended Mass. Remember that all the Priests there were holy men that gave wonderful spiritual direction. The Church was alway packed with parishioners for Sunday Masses. Also the Church was staffed with sisters that provided excellent Catechism instruction for Holy Communion.”
“Such a warm and welcoming church! I haven’t missed a Sunday service since Christmas 2022. Pastor and his family are genuine and down to earth, which I love. They really make you feel like you’re part of the family. They have been a blessing to both my husband and me.”
