BEWARE. All of these one star reviews are correct. I would give zero stars if it was possible. Do not trust recommendations from friends like we did. He has been doing work around town for years and recently this is a consistent pattern. He even lied stating one of his children was in the hospital for issues I do not even feel comfortable restating. What kind of man does this? Not only did he only do the demolition but now we have to waterproof our basement due to the damage that he did to it. He sends day workers with no instructions who do not speak English. They also ruined our wood steps and polished concrete floor. Then he disappeared. No return calls, texts. We have to start the job over AND spend money fixing what he ruined.

Sylvio and his team at SR General Contractor have done an excellent job on each and every project they worked on at our home. The main work that was done was building a front porch. They started on time and showed up on time each day, were meticulous craftsmen, asked questions, focused on all the small details and finished on time. The front porch is absolutely beautiful and it has completely upgraded the look of our home. Sylvio always returns my phone calls, texts or emails. He is very honest, fair, and takes a tremendous amount of pride in his work. He would regularly stop by and make sure the job was going well and that my home was being taken care of. I have had SR General Contractor do electrical work, plumbing, install a front door, paint and install gutters; and plan on having them do a few more major projects at our home. I would recommend them to anyone interested in home improvement and Sylvio is the only person I will go to when I need work done at my home. A truly great company with great people.
Edited Review 1/2/24: All the above was true and I’ve done work with Sylvio Rocha since that review. The work was good and done on-time. I recently hired Sylvio Rocha to do three bathrooms. Initially the job started fine, but it has been five days and I haven’t spoken with him. The workers haven’t shown up and I feel like he has stolen from me. I paid a lot of money upfront due to “issues”and “material cost”. I’m going to continue to pursue this situation, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to recover what I put into it.

I hired SR Contractors to refresh the 2nd floor apartment. It has been almost a year. Initially, the job started and workers showed up daily. Then everything stopped, but not before they got a significant down payment. After many unreturned texts, messages, and attorney letters, different workers slowly started to show up again. However, the quality of the workers is questionable. These workers have no regard for your home. They did NOT use drop cloths so the original wood floor is destroyed. They poured left over spackle in the kitchen sink, clogged the drain then used the bathtub and clogged that. They broke 2 of the original windows. The construction trash accumulated in the house. The painter (ha) painted over the switch plates and electrical outlets and used my wooden floors to extinguish his cigarettes that he smoked in my house and left them there. He used the wrong kind of primer for the woodwork so it looks terrible and there are spots where the paint is uneven. He also painted over the locks on the doors with such a heavy coat of paint, the locks no longer work. The workers arrive at the house with NO tools, NO ladders, NO drop cloths, NO trash bags and pretend NOT to speak English!!!! And most of the time have NO clue why they are there or what they are supposed to do.The weird thing is, if they had sent qualified workers to do the job, most of these issues would not be issues.I cannot stress enough, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Multiple people in my neighborhood hired them and had the exact same experience. The Google rating is so high I felt compelled to write an honest review. Also of note: High urgency issues WILL arise during whatever it is you originally contracted with them for and they will want MORE MONEY on the spot. Do NOT hire them, do NOT give them any money, do NOT leave the 'workers' unattended and do NOT fall for the timelines you are given.THEY NEVER CAME BACK AND I HAD TO HIRE ANOTHER CONTRATOR TO FINISH THE JOB. NO kitchen floors installed, no repairs for things broken, NO RETURN CALLS.TO SYLVIO: IF YOU ARE READING THIS, YOU KNOW WHO I AM AND WHAT YOU PROMISED AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!Services: Install flooring

Sylvio Rocha walked away with my money, abusing my good nature and I want to make sure that doesn't happen to other people. I hired Sylvio Rocha (SR General Contractor) in Sept 2021 when our house got flooded after storm Ida. At first, Sylvio was responsive and showing up regularly to supervise the work, but quickly that changed and he was only showing up to collect advance payments. The work was supposed to be done in 6-8 weeks but his crew stop showing up and the work dragged on until April - May 2022, at which point I asked Sylvio to return the difference between the advance payments I had given him and the actual work he had done. After months of chasing him down with calls and text messages, he finally showed up in late August 2022 and acknowledge he had received $4,700 dollars more than the work he had done and promised to drop a check within the following days. Clearly that didn't happen and when I try to call him back, he had disconnected both his cell number and business land line number.

We have 1 contract (dated 10/4/22) and 1 change order to the contract (dated 1/10/23) with SR General Contractors. The original contract is for a bathroom renovation and the change order is for additional work on the front of the house.Since the contract date of 10/4/22, we were given dozens of excuses as to why the project cannot start (hospitalizations, COVID, bad weather, no workers, accidents, miscommunication with township about permits). The work did not actually begin until the beginning of January. It is now mid April and we are still awaiting a major portion of the project to be completed. We paid $7,900 for the exterior of the house and only 12 hours of work has been done since January. We are being told that SR General Contractors used the $7,900 to sub out the job to another contractor and that sub contractor has taken his money. We are being told the owner of SR General Contractors is out of the country. We are being told that SR General Contractors has workers with hospitalizations again. We are being told by SR General Contractors that he has lost money on our job. We also have long periods of time where SR General Contractors does not respond at all.The front of our home has been covered with white Home Depot plastic wrap since January while it awaits new siding. Every screen window has been torn and needs to be replaced and a majority of our front landscaping has been damaged from the 12 hours of work that was done. 3 large ladders and scaffolding are scattered across the front lawn. We have given up hope that this project will ever be completed. We have hundreds of text messages from SR General Contractors and all the reasons the work cannot be done. We are looking to recoup our money at this point so we can find a reliable contractor to complete the job.

Run, do not walk away from this fraud! Nothing but delays, excuses, and lies. Among the many fairytales Silvio told us, was the one about his electrician's three-year-old son that was in the hospital with a heart condition so he wasn't sure when his electrician would be available. Turns out, his son is 6, thankfully does not have a heart condition and was not in the hospital. What kind of person makes up a story like that to cover his delays? Aside from being a liar, he is also:Unethical: After taking out the old tiles from my kitchen and bath he told me the remaining flooring was too low. He put an additional layer of plywood down at an additional charge of course. Not only was the additional layer not necessary I now have to cut down the doors and the trim to accommodate the new height and live with a step down into the foyer that is higher than desired.Incompetent: He sends people who have no clue and does not supervise them. 1- After all the additional plywood was laid down the kitchen floor was visibly higher than the adjoining bathroom which of course is supposed to be all the same level. 2- The work on the single kitchen cabinet I asked him to repair was atrocious. It looked like he gave some wood and nails to a 10-year-old kid. The bottom of the cabinet was made from 4 poorly cut pieces of wood instead of one like every other cabinet floorboard in the world. Aesthetics aside, when he was done the rebuilt cabinet was longer than the original so there was a gap between the doors and the floor of cabinet. You could literally see into the cabinet without opening the doors. Amazing. The requested support for the sink was not installed. They rerouted power wire by wrapping it around a 2x4 in a manner that was a fire hazard. Dishonest: after five weeks of excuses when he finally sent his electrician to install the elements for the heated floor he arrived with an insufficient amount of heating cable (which is the most expensive part of the project). Silvio tried to convince me it was enough. Only when I told him that I was looking at the box the material came in - it is rated for a max configuration of 225 square-meters and we are closer to 380 - did he tell his electrician to buy another box. Not knowing if or when I would ever see the electrician again I went out to purchase the additional material with the agreement that Sylvio would reimburse me for it. He never did. Same story with a counter-top we bought that he was supposed to provide - no reimbursement. Same story with the toilet his guys broke. (This one could also go in the incompetent category - they removed the toilet so they could work on the floor, put it on the deck with a tank full of water which froze and cracked the porcelain. You can't make this stuff up). After seven weeks we cut him loose and are finishing work another contractor. Over those seven weeks his team was on-site maybe 7 or 8 days. There was one week when they were on-site a total of 2 hours. Delays aside, it will end up costing me considerably more than what Sylvio was supposed to deliver the project for, but it will be worth every extra penny to have him and his crew out of my life. Hands down the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. Run!

Do not use this company. Used Sylvio for renovations in 2017. Quick to take the money to start, but took forever getting permits. Quoted 4 months to finish, took over a year. Permits still open in 2021 for small HVAC issues, and no response from owner or manager. Ruined my boiler when house was dormant after demo, pipes cracked. New boiler replaced out of pocket at a "discount", but not done correctly and permits still open. Always a story about why it can't get finished. Cheap materials and labor used, my kitchen sink already has leaks, vinyl floor that was laid down done without proper leveling and show cracks in areas. Contracted workers, who knows where they come from. Don't be fooled by the pictures on their website/Facebook, that is only for the clients that have money and they rip off. You've been warned!Service: Remodelling

Fantastic contractor that we used extensively for work on our home here in Glen Ridge. Sylvio and his team built a garage/carport, painted most of the house, installed a jetted tub and renovated a bathroom, did a complete gut reno of the basement, and now is working on some final repairs and painting outdoors. They do consistently excellent work for a fair price.Services: Drywall installation
