We did a couple surf lessons for a 9 year old first timer. Really a 5 star experience. Lance and Coastline Adventures were terrific. All aspects were great, can’t go wrong surfing with Lance. Thanks again for everything Lance.

This was fabulous! Two colleagues and I brought ten high school students (all girls) for an outdoor adventure on the water. None of us had any surfing experience. Jennifer, Lance, and Will were fabulous instructors! They worked with us with such care and guidance, and we felt so strong and empowered. We had a few logistical hiccoughs on our end, and Jennifer was great at being flexible and working with us to make the day come together. It was an AMAZING experience! This is a fabulous team. If you have ever had an interest in trying out surfing, give it a try with Coastline Adventures!

Had my first surf lesson with this school and could not be happier! My instructor Lou was very knowledgeable. He made the experience incredibly informative and fun. I feel like I learned so much. If you are looking to start surfing in this area I definitely recommend you start here!!

Had a great time learning SUP from Lance this season - he kept us safe informed and calm, plus he had some great stories about local area to share. Very generous with his time and the information he shared! Can’t wait to come back for surf lessons, he is definitely the closest thing to a water bender IRL. Thanks again, Lance!

Can't believe I learned so much hands-on at what was supposed to be only a Surf camp (presuming it was going to be all theory, and no practical)! In fact our instructors really went out of their way to make this informal sea-side camping experience (like I originally envisioned) into a full-on training session. On one hand, it was Jennifer - who walked me through all surfing etiquettes, survival techniques & maneuvering skills. On the other hand, there was Lance - a tough task-master, who pushed us through our limits. Both were a killer combination in getting me on-board (literally :)) with my very 1st shot at surfing. To top it all, I was lucky to be a part of a crew full of trainees that were so co-operative, so friendly!!! Can't wait to go again... & again

The guys were really nice and helpful. We didn't take a lesson, but they showed us where to go and the local rules for the beach. We are beginners and the 9 foot board was perfect.

Overall: When my 16 year old announced he wanted to learn to surf, I was incredulous. He tends to fear ocean sports, but wanted to try. After looking online and calling a surfer friend, Coastline came up. We booked a kids camp, and my son came home totally jazzed. Booked another camp and we are definitely going back for more private lessons too.

Location and accessibility: Conveniently located off exit 98 from the NJP, classes meet at Brick Beach III in an easily identifiable area with a well marked company vehicle. Beach access is a ramp- no stairs- which is great if you have a participant or observer with mobility issues. We have a family member in a wheelchair, so we like to check destinations out for this type of accessibility. Ramp has an observation deck area with a bench as well, which is helpful for observers who cannot navigate the sand but still want to watch and enjoy. Equipment: Coastline provides all necessary equipment for fledgling surfers, so no need to purchase a bunch of stuff before you even know if you enjoy the sport. Try before you buy! They provide wetsuits in various sizes, and boards in many different lengths. Boards are all foam tops- great for beginners and seasoned surfers alike. Pricing: Sessions are reasonably priced which makes the sport far more accessible than many schools make it out to be. Instructors also take the time after sessions to discuss best boards, pricing, and practicality of various board types and brands which is very helpful for people who have not had prior experience with the sport and for those on a budget who do not want expense to preclude them from long term participation. COVID and general safety standards: The school is very conscious of COVID guidelines, and they require students be healthy before instruction. They do require written waivers disclosing recent health as well as general health and wellness for each student. They also disclose the possible hazards associated with the sport so participants or parents are aware and can sign off that they understand that this is a lot different than, say, miniature golf, haha! Instructors are also very serious about safety on the water, as well. Before even getting in the water, they drill the students on water safety, board safety, personal safety, and the safety of others around them. They're also serious about checking swimming abilities before heading out. Discussions are had about potential hazards and what to do if one encounters one. Basic board moves are also practiced while still on dry land including body positioning and the proper ways to maneuver the body on the board to accomplish goals and to be as safe as possible. Instructors accompany small groups into the water and stay with them as they paddle out into the waves, guiding them through how to get over waves and how to handle whitewash, etc. They then assist the students in ascertaining which waves to attempt and how, staying with them the whole time, and surfing next to them throughout the process, making sure that the students are safe throughout. Additionally, throughout the water session, an instructor remains on the sand monitoring weather conditions, surf conditions, and making sure that all students are safe and accounted for in the ocean. This is a very serious and safe company. Learning and retention: After water sessions, students reconvene on the sand to discuss what was accomplished or not accomplished and break down the overall session. Dialogues are also had about how to proceed in the sport, and recommendations are made based on individual students' strengths and weaknesses. Learning techniques are student-led. Instead of instructors reiterating the same lessons over and over, they instead employ the use of leading questions so students have to come up with answers on their own. This is proven effective in regular classrooms as it encourages students to really think about what they've learned in order to retain the information they've been taught. It also inspires students to feel empowered that they know the material a
