“Coined as America’s first seaside resort, Cape May became the country’s summer resort destination because of its effortless transport by water from Philadelphia to the Atlantic Ocean. Early visitors of Cape May included Henry Clay, Ulysses Grant, and possibly Abraham Lincoln in 1849.

Victorian-style architecture was the most common style used from the 1860s to 1900s, during Cape May’s reconstruction.

Perhaps one of the best-known Victorian houses is the Emlen Physick House. As Cape May’s only Victorian house museum, visitors can tour inside, as it was part of our combo trolley ticket.

Named for Doctor Emlen Physick, he completed his medical training but did not practice medicine and lived off of his generation's wealth. Designed in 1876 by famed architect Frank Furness, the mansion is an excellent example of a stick-style house. It’s characterized by geometric shapes and partially exposed timbers that hint at the house’s support structure. An eighteen-room fully furnished features with period-accurate Victorian goods and offers a glimpse of what life was like in the late 1800s.

“Amazing tour guides! My husband and i thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Physick mansion. My ONLY complaint regarding pace, is that for ALL the amazing things to see it felt very rushed. I wanted to ask questions but when it was offered to ask, it was two rooms ago asks not pertinent to what was being discussed. For $20 pp (which I'm more than happy to pay to restore our rich history) i just wish it hadn't been so rushed.”

“Stop here for the best cheeseburgers in Wildwood! Jersey Joe is flippin' on the grill! Nice full menu to choose from, outdoor dining and don't forget to check out the Little Library Box out front. Right next to the chairs and tables where you can choose to eat outside. Food available Friday, Saturday and Sundays.”

They don't pass judgment on anyone either . They are kind souls who are doing God's work. “This place had a beautiful collection of vintage products are fair prices. The staff was incredibly sweet as well! The reviews are so harsh I almost didn’t come but the prices are great for the collection of stuff they had. I would recommend just coming and stopping by to look at everything it’s so cool! It’s like an antique store and thrift shop in one.”
