Please don't go for electric cars like Tesla; they impose more fees in addition to the Tesla electric charge fee. It was a huge bill for me compared to the charges shown at the Tesla charging station. Avoid.

Car smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, had not been fully cleaned and gas was not full - additionally I had to call my call insurance and have them describe my rental coverage out loud which I’ve never had to do.

Extremely Disappointing Experience at Avis Car Rental – Edison, NJ
We had a truly frustrating experience with Avis in Edison, NJ. Despite booking a larger vehicle and confirming the details over a phone call the day before, we were given a smaller car upon arrival. When we inquired about other options, the staff member on duty was extremely rude and dismissive, bluntly telling us, “This is what we have — take it or leave it.”
The issues didn’t stop there. Once we started our trip, the car displayed multiple maintenance warnings, including the need for an oil change and washer fluid. On top of that, the vehicle was filthy both inside and out. The windshield was particularly dirty and had clearly not been cleaned prior to our rental.
This kind of service is unacceptable and not what one expects from a reputable rental company. I hope Avis takes this feedback seriously and improves their customer service and vehicle maintenance.

Very unprofessional and unorganized place. If there is a zero star to give i will be more than happy to give them. Stay far away from this place because they will disappoint you at the last minute. They did to me on my son's wedding with no remorse.

I am regular avis customer, but i never had worst experience than this one.
My credit card covers rental insurance, however, personal at the front desk forced me to purchase insurance product regardless. I called Avis and they did confirm that I don’t need to purchase it, but person at the front desk disregarded it citing they are a franchise.

Worst customer service, reserved a van for only 4 hours online. Seemed like a good deal with 90$ rental and 90 cents per mile. What they don't make it clear is that they still are going to charge your credit card 250$ security deposit, and they will refund the amount until you bring the vehicle back. Plus, you need to purchase their insurance 50$ per day or contact your own insurance and notify them about the rental. I didn't feel like dealing with that hassle and was annoyed at the fact that the rental was not closed to the price I reserved it online for. When I asked for a cancelation and refund, I had to call customer service, and when I did, they said I would have to pay 150$ cancelation fee. Reasoning being that I canceled last minute, and it was my fault for not understanding their rental policy and terms. At the end I just let those 90$ go to waist.
