“I don't often review liquor stores...but when I do Englewood Wine Merchants is top of my list! I stumbled on this establishment while working locally for a few days. The location is iconic. Upon stepping inside the striking redbrick corner building, it oozes confidence with a finely curated selection of wines & liquors from around the world. Despite the seasonal chaos of a Santa-sized delivery schedule, the sheer number of holidays orders being prepped to make 1000s happy this Christmas is a testament that Englewood Wine Merchants is a cherished curator of cheer. I was looking for a Basque wine, Txakolina, difficult to find among the usual pinots, chardonnays & sauv blancs in a typical store. Neil was familiar with & sourced a case in jig time, making sure I knew how to pour it correctly (from a great height a la the northern Spanish territory from which it hails!). But what I loved more than anything was his effervescent character that outshone the gentle natural fizz this wine possesses. Despite living in Brooklyn I would happily make the 1+ hour trek to New Jersey just for a short conversation...and to pick up a few bottles of course! Don't pass it by!”
